Diabetes Overlay and Cardiology

For those of you who have not been retained and have decided to go after a diabetes overlay position, I think you should be aware of an email that went out this morning that does not look like you were copied in on (according to my ex-partner).

BI has decided to repost the diabetes overlay positions so members of the cardiology specialty team can post for those. Apparently very few CV reps thought it was a good idea to step down from specialty and back into the PC arena to sell Jardiance for the CV indication. Now BI is encouraging them to apply for these positions many of you had so hoped would enable you to return to work.

IMO: those laid off are not deemed "qualified" as BI is apparently valuing CV spec over you. In addition, since this email was not copied to those facing termination, this creates an illusion that upcoming diabetes overlay position interviews actually make a difference, while more than likely, these positions will be filled by representatives on the CV team, thus leaving you on the outside looking in, as was with the HSBS roles many in PC were overlooked for.

Even though I was retained, I feel bad for those of you trying to retain a job here at BI. I had an awesome partner who was not retained, who deserves to come back, but realistically, will not have a shot if any local CV reps put in for the overlay position and the interviews will not be fairly weighted, each on their own merit.

Not sure if I should be surprised by this move by BI, especially since Pradaxa patent extension was denied by FDA. Still a low blow to all affected. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Thank you for your professionalism and support. It is beyond disappointing, certainly unprofessional and questionably immoral for an organization that publicly promised transparency and respect to behave this way. The fact that displaced reps did not receive these emails says a lot about the ethics of this organization.

There is certainly a pattern of corporate behavior to be learned from here. It was clear that HSBS, HSBM and other positions were, for the most part, predetermined and that positions were reposted until hand-picked applicants applied for them. Now the same is happening with the diabetes overlay positions. Doing "courtesy" or CYA interviews is an insult to those interviewing for positions they have no real chance at getting. Many of the representatives let go didn't lose their jobs due to poor performance, action plans, or what have you. It was just the luck of the draw. They deserve better than having their time wasted spending hours preparing to interview for jobs they have no real chance at.

I will repeat what I've seen posted here several times. For those of us that are left standing when this is all said and done, please be very, very clear about the quality, ability, and ethics of the people running this organization. How long until the next downsizing? Who are they going to screw over next all while promising to be respectful and transparent? How do you trust people that of been proven to be untrustworthy?

+2 Well said.

Some of you are like the little league parents that bitch and complain because their kid doesn't play enough. Just like coaches rarely, if ever, avoid playing the best players, managers don't purposely avoid hiring the best sales people.

So, the company reposted the jobs. Who cares? Sounds like there was minimal interest in some areas. CV, displaced, it doesn't matter. Be the best candidate and get hired. If not, move along and be some other company's problem.

In today's PC world, sometimes you just need a reality check, just like getting cut from the baseball team.

Amen! Either find a way to stay and play or get out and stop whining.

I can't imagine what happened during your childhood to make you so damn desperate for attention and to get a rise out of people. I imagine you think you've really taught people a lesson with you're "tough love" posts. Honestly though, what you actually demonstrate is that you don't get what the thread is about, and that you can be a hard ass---as long as you can be anonymous and a coward about it.

Grow up and get a better hobby little man.

you stink.

Why would anyone want a displaced rep? They were the ones on the bottom so it would be hard to see why the majority would be wanted.

Why would an HSBM not want to create the team they want? Shouldn't the HSBS be hand picked and pre-determined. You hire your friends not someone you don't know. You would do the same too.

No job should last forever. You work for BI a few years and move, hopefully, you got a severance too so what's the big deal. They were 100% transparent in my book:
1. Announce you may or may not have a job in 5 months.
2. Go look for a new one if you feel scared.
3. The last 2 years of performance reviews is criteria.
4. Did you score low in 14 & 15? Then you are on the block, go find another job.

this is about as transparent as you can get. Did you not ask your pod mates what they did in 14 or 15 or look them up on sales inet to see how you stand in relation.

You BI people are fucking stupid. This was the easiest layoff I have ever been through. (3 here) Why? Because I knew I did better than the people in my district. Easy and transparent as you can get. Good job BI!

Glad it worked for you, but on my team the person who was ranked lowest was kept. Sometimes it did not make sense.

Look bud, I get it. Maybe you're pecker is too small. Maybe you aren't as tall as you'd like. Or maybe mommy just didn't love you enough. Who knows? Whatever the reason, you have a lot of insecurity and anger bottled up, so you go trolling for a place you can feel like a man and end up overcompensating for your insecurity by trying to insult people. Feels good to think you're a big man for a minute, right? But buddy, you're not hurting anyone's feelings here----you're just embarrassing yourself.

Oh, and for the record:
1) a company that doesn't include everyone in emails concerning postings isn't transparent. It's cowardly and disrespectful, but transparent it's not.

3) & 4). I know of several people with both higher rankings and better year end reviews that were severed while those with lower rankings and reviews were retained.

Also, when you say "you BI people" you make it clear you're not with the company, at least not in spirit and probably not in reality.

And on the off chance you do work here , if your such a pro on downsizing and believe in a gypsy-worker mentality, why don't you move on and leave your job for someone who actually wants to be here?

No, I wouldn't. This company is in the shape it's in because people "networked" into positions they weren't able to handle. Promoting the willing and the loyal rather than the best and the brightest is how you end up downsizing while still in launch mode with several products.

Okay oh great insightful poster. Then please explain this:

Top 25% last 2 years
Met/Exceeds on MAG last 2 years
10 years with company, have always had respiratory in my bag (which correlates to 10 yrs respiratory therapeutic experience)
Outperformed adjoining neighboring territory reps
Partner here less than 2 years and only has 1 true MAG review
Have never been on any sort of plan
Yet I was not retained.

Your justification for why people were termed makes no sense. Maybe in your case it worked out, in many many other cases, it did not. Don't try to rationalize what happened to you to everyone that was termed across the country. There were plenty of reps in the colors that were let go as well. Yes BI gave plenty of lead time, but some of us were still shocked on how things went down. You sir, are just a plain old-fashioned asshole. Karma is a bitch. People like you really piss me off.

+ infinity and beyond. There were great reps that were shown the door. Time will tell what happens. One thing for sure, cv will be gone and respiratory will be gone too.

I'm just sick of all the BS too. But the facts are the company said you have 5 months to leave and you choose not to leave and were severed. You can't get more transparent than that. They cleaned house. The only ones let go were on the bottom that I know. I'm not an asshole I am sick of your bitching for the last 5 months about horrible BI is. Look, this company is a shit show of marketing and products to be sure. But to say they were not treating me fairly when they clearly said if you are in respiratory you will be gone in 5 months make no sense. The company had/has a bloated work force and they aren't your mommy or pre-school teacher. Since when should a company "treat you fairly". We are all on borrowed time in Pharma especially after HRC wins. They didn't include you on any new emails becuase they don't want you back.

They are not keeping the best and brightest. They are not keeping the willing and loyal. They are keeping the cheapest and lowest salaried people that meet the criteria to justify to HR. I was a 10 + year rep who was let go and my 25 year old f*ck boy counterpart who I know had a base salary in the low 60's was kept on. We both had meets or exceeds the past 2 years but only because I knew all the docs and he was along for the ride, tagging along at as many of my lunches as possible and trying to "sound smart". I was making over 90k a year which at this company put me into almost Arab Sheikh territory as far as compensation. That's all these cheapest of the cheap bastards are trying to do is squeeze pennies so hard that buggers come out of Abe Lincoln's nose.
