CUTS, CUTS AND MORE CUTS

I got the call - I was let go - and I have mixed emotions. If I had to convert my salary to wages, I make about $3k per hour - there is very little to do, and the pay and benefits are pretty good. I will miss getting paid for doing almost nothing, but I am hopeful that the next chapter will be better for my soul and self esteem. I was very bothered by much of what I saw at AZ, particularly post COVID. I appreciate the person who posted the Bob Gilot video because it exposed what AZ is really all about - GREED. I wish all of you the best; both those who were cut, and those who weren’t. Many of us who were let go will go on to find much more satisfying work, some won’t. Try not to get too self-absorbed over this, and have faith. Despite everything that going on, things will get better.
You are A Newbie! I was let go a year ago and am still unemployed! Thanks to my super hot wife..I am not stressed (she wisely doesn’t work in Pharma). It’s a TUFF climate to lose your job in. I have 10 years in and we’re talking about my going back to school. Beat the competition and get ahead of your job search. It’s One Month for every $10,000 in salary. For me, that’s 9 months and I am
Overdue.

AZ is a terrible company with a terrible culture. If you were let go and you didn’t expect it I’m terribly sorry. I can imagine that’s really tough.

Many years ago I worked for AZ for more than half a decade. I knew when the cuts came I’d likely be on the chopping block. My teammate was a back stabbing jerk so typical of the culture here. I was fortunate enough to get an offer the day before the axe fell and got my severance and a start with a new company. I’ll never forget being in a fast start meeting the day before announced layoffs. It was so tone deaf and so very much AZ.

Fast forward many years later (and several companies later) and I’m now at a biotech startup making nearly triple in base what I made as a PSS. I probably wouldn’t have even looked to leave AZ back then. We were all lead to believe that all of pharma is the same and the grass isn’t necessarily greener.

Look around. Find a job that’s a place holder if you have to. But never give up on finding a role that truly makes you happy. You owe the corporation nothing. The only people you owe loyalty to are your family members. F your boss. F your teammates.

Most of all trust that when the dust settles you’ll be in a better place and the struggle will teach you something and make you better.

AZ should apologize it is a tradition to fire Americans on Thanksgiving, Christmas and 4th of July. What is this dishonorable nonsense about firing Americans at other times ? This must stop ! Wait until you see the whites of their eyes, as the hot turkey approaches the table that when the phone should ring. Now do it properly. And remember No Brits ! I love seeing people complain about AZ. What other job gives you a free car, free gas, free meals, make fake calls, get out of bed at 9am and back home by 3pm, $7,000 a quarter bonuses, 4 weeks vacation plus the Christmas week, see your manager once a month and take them to the same 5 offices where everyone loves you and you look like a hero, make a 6 figure base salary, but still find away to complain.

Damn...Well, when you put it that way, it does sound pretty glorious. It is the weirdest career choice though when you think about it. It does have all of those perks but the trade off is...Your job can literally be gone at any second. There is zero stability at AZ or any other pharma company. Great job for an eternal bachelor but if you want to raise a family or make any kind of plan it is a terrible way to go.

Let’s not forget self respect. When you factor than into the equation (along with what you’ve laid out there) we’re actually destitute.
