Culling the herd

I have not heard or organized cuts but yes, some have disappeared for sure. We are bracing for some cuts in IT. Budget has been trimmed (by millions) and when it's that much, it's not just projects that get cut. It's people too.

Not a rumor. A number of people were let go in the IT dept today.

Did you you believe AM and his high priced cronies came cheap? The real accountability here lies with RT ('teflon Richie'), EH and KG. They have managed the TS and Safety areas into the ground. RT was so high on CJ when she was cracking skulls to turn J&J around but he doesnt have her back when she needed him. Way to go fellas.

These RIFs will pale in comparison to what is coming with the IMS "merger".

AMs cronies should be at the front of the list. MP is a complete waste of space and he's taking credit for initiatives he had no involvement in (Apple, biogen, etc). Although AM just gave him the CDO title to go with CTO title, so long titles are the new measure of success in Q. What a joke this company has become.

They missed a golden opportunity to cut more of the ass kissers yesterday.
With all the sucking up that goes on you'd think IT was a vacuum factory.
But I guess thats how you survive around here.
(Or move to GDN and suck up to the other king hoping he provides protection)

A big problem is there have been so many cuts over the past few years many of which were stealth cuts of lower staff, that now the IT org is very top heavy. So many new VPs and Sr Dir's. You have to play the game and not lose favor.

Any indication of the sorts of numbers & locations? Is it 3 or 4, or are we into double figures?

In comparing notes with others, the number of layoffs in IT are around 50. Is anyone hearing about the due diligence task force that is looking at IMS and Q IT groups to determine what functions will be combined? I hear this will not be like the other acquisitions where the groups largely remain separate.

culling the herd... Surprising title given its literal translation, to remove inferior animals from the herd to reduce undesirable traits from the group as a whole. A necessity that is difficult but ultimately positive for the remaining herd.

Positive for the herder; not so positive for those deemed "undesirable" to the herder.

Remember: we are all but cattle to the powers that be.

We'll see if this move is 'ultimately positive' for the remaining people. It's a very imperfect process, and when the decision makers are infected with cronyism, well that right there is an 'undesirable trait' that remains.

True dat.

Is it ironic that we are culling our herd and then off-shoring the activities performed by the "cattle" to a country where actual cattle are sacred? o_O

There is still hiring here in 'Merica. Unfortunately it's mainly at the senior level positions. Very little movement upwards unless you can enchant AM. Then you will move from AD to Sr Dr in less than a year. But we did see some more senior people in this round so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with several of those positions.

I would agree. The technology solutions revenue in IMS number in the (high) hundreds of millions of dollars. Compare that with the fledgling TS group run by KG. There is no strategy and some of the bigger failures have hurt the Q brand. Any executive worth his or her weight will put IMS management at the controls and move the Q management team out of their way. It's not a coincidence that IMS has the majority stake in this merger.

Agree re KG. Though its not a surprising outcome when you have EH assuming everything is a popularity contest, KG assuming its beauty contest and RT treating everything like a political campaign !!! no one in the TS group actually trying (or knowing how) to run it as a business. Roll it under IMS and give EH/KG a package
