Covidien Vascular

Can't wait to see the look on the vascular solutions rep's face when covidien launches the new generator and updated disposable catheters that are one time use. Priceless!!
So, what great "clinical" reason do they have to change it? Other than to keep another company from reprocessing... Slippery slope...

It's called product iteration.. sorry, you slimeballs will have to find something else to wash..

The ONLY treason they want to change it is to keep it from being reprocessed? What clinical need or advantage will a "new" generator and catheter provide? NONE.... It's will still treat a vein in 7cm segments through collagen contraction.. NES would have some teeth if they fought back that the changes were only made to keep them from reprocessing.. Govt doesn't like that..

I love asking docs if they tell their patients that they're getting a re-used catheter.. of course they don't. You bet if it was their family member, they'd spend the extra 100 bucks and use a fresh catheter. That would make a great 20/20 story.. hmm, does your doctor have a "dirty little secret?" Oh, and the second question is do you pass the savings along to your patient. No and no.

What's your point. Go into the OR sometime and take a look at all the stuff that gets reprocessed and sterilized. It's the way it is and last time I looked, the hospital doesn't say a word either....

Quit your whining already.. It's legal and they are safe... It's more reprehensible for you to "attack" your customer like that instead of just accepting reality... If you were that Dr you would do the same, considering that the only reason those catheters are as expensive is to artificially inflate acquisition costs so CMS won't lower reimbursement... Try asking Covidien how much it costs to make one... Criminal what margin they make, then get pissed when Drs try to save some bucks...

You my friend are an idiot.

The difference is that the closurefast catheter is plastic and has a small wire lumen through the middle of it and is designed to be single use. If reprocessing is so SAFE, ask yourself why you're only allowed to re-use it three times.

You my friend are an idiot.

No.. Just happen to have some first hand knowledge of the system.... Covidien had their heads in the sand and also had fired anyone who knew reproing was coming... So they were caught off guard.... So, you are saying things made from medical grade plastic can't be sterilized? Who is the idiot..

Simple question, trash man. If the reprocessed catheter fails, who gets blamed in the MAUDE report? The company that designed it and labeled it single use, or the reprocessing company? You know the answer to that, and it's bullshit.

How much do the reprocessing lobbyists spend each year to ensure a patient doesn't have to be informed that a single use product is about to be used for the 4th, 5th, 6th time on them- oh, and at full hospital cost?

Sorry you are offended at our margins. But we actually had to design, test, and market the device to get it to market. You just fish it out of the trash can and strut around the OR on your scrubs on the way to the reprocesser. Small difference, but let me guess, you trash men still turn a "small" profit, no?

I was contacted by a recruiter and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share any insight regarding a position with Covidien Vascular? What has been your overall experience with this division and is the $140k a realistic number as far as compensation goes? Thank you in advance!
