Counsyl

so true if you have to fly to training and the company puts you in a hotel. Flights and hotel go against your revenue. The pay structure sux. it is better than what the ceo and cfo were trying to do and that was anything you spend is considered your expense and no reimbursement.

This is the most intelligent comment in this entire thread.

Labcorp is not going to get anywhere in personalized medicine without the ability to analyze the data. Labcorp and Quest are just two big dumb dinosaurs that are going to get disrupted by technology, just like Borders was killed by Amazon, Blockbuster by Netflix, Kodak by digital photography, and newspaper classified ads by Craigslist and Google.

The best part is that LC is just dumb enough not to realize they have zero "experience" in analyzing multi-terabyte genome scale datasets. Dave King is a lawyer, all he knows how to do is sue. He's not an inventor or a mathematician, he can't roll up his sleeves and build something himself like Ramji and the Counsyl guys have done.

The entire genetic testing market is rapidly moving towards pure software analysis of the genome and Labcorp is going to be lost in that world.

Now, you might not understand this trend, but Dave King sort of does...which is why he's asking Counsyl for a distribution deal after blowing nine hundred million dollars on Genzyme Genetics.

Counsyl people drinking the the kool-aid.

I work here Labcorp is not going anywhere dumbasses. We sell one genetic test LC has tons of other things they do. We are a one trick pony they have a stable of different animals. Just in case one of my colleagues try to say Im an imposter and do not work counsyl. Kenny or wiki kenny drives a BMW 1 series. proof enough? Counsyl unless they get contracts that quest has will never be able to compete. If you wanna compare LC or Quest to something they are more like walmart or Target for docs...

Sales are a means to an end for Counsyl. It is a technology company. Once the market truly understands Counsyl's value proposition, the test will sell itself. While it's unfortunate that the sales reps are not being treated well, since they are not part of the long-term strategy of the company, very little is invested in their careers, compensation, or overall job satisfaction.

Based on your post, you are clearly the "dumbass."

Comparing Counsyl to LC is asinine, the truth is Ramji has pissed them off, and is so cavalier in his attitude, it shows that he's a 20 something with a clear lack of understanding of the business space his company is in.

How does pissing off others with a cavalier attitude show that Ramji doesn't understand the business space? These are completely unrelated concepts.

As previous posts note, this isn't a great opportunity for sales reps. Counsyl falls short in 4 major areas.

1. Pay is terrible for a start up
2. There are no stock options offered. Reps seeking start ups are looking for the big pay day like Kypon, Acclarent, and Intuitive.
3. Reducing your sales to cover expenses is a joke. What Pharma rep would take an $80k salary and pay for lunches? And don't kid yourself, this is a pharma job. Wear a suit, sit in a waiting room, pay for lunch.
4. They didn't eve have a 401k program.

To the posts about management, I cannot comment other than during the entire interview process, I never met the hiring manager. Only skyped once and a few phone calls. How do you legitimately make and offer and hire someone with never meeting them and vice versa for the rep?

I will say I didn't pay for airfare or hotel during the interview process, but I did have to pay for airport parking, gas during ride along, and meals.

All added up it doesn't give a warm fuzzy feeling like the company is truly interested in you.

One other funny fact, I flew cross country to interview in San Fran. I arrived at 1pm, interviewed at 2pm with Tom/Ramji, and by 3pm I was in a cab back to the airport. They put me on a red eye back home leaving at 10:30pm to not pay for a hotel. Instead of walking me around the office or even grabbing dinner, they let me spend 7hrs in the airport. Cheap and classless in my opinion.

If you want top candidates and especially device experienced reps who can sell, you have to change this behavior. Don't get so blinded by your swelling head that the candidate is interviewing the company as well.

All the posts defending Counsyl have to be from corporate people or GCs. I know from talking to all the sales people and IT IS A FACT!!!! that not a single one of them is happy. Not even the new hires. You certainly shouldn't be posting here or you'll be fired. Counsyl thinks of itself as fight club. You can't talk about it. I know that come April 30th after commission checks roll out there will be a mass exodus.

Anonymous said "7. This company is ran by tech guys and genetic counselors and an idiot VP"
100% right!!!! Having worked onsite I can confirm the murmurs. Tech guys are fed up too. Idiot VP for sure.

"Pay is terrible for a start up"

Average pharma rep base salary is $60k in the US. $80k is way above average.

All expenses are subtracted from revenue. so if u are in a new territory and produce about 10k in revenue and you spend about 10k in expenses you will not be making much.

So this has nothing to do with the sodas at headquarters. If you are spending $10k in expenses to make only $10k in revenue, aren't you generating zero net income? Good luck finding a company where they will pay you commissions for spending $10k on lunch.

Your statements contradict themselves. You didn't meet anyone during the interview process, but you were flown out to meet the CEO?

cheap and classless...THe Konopka is ugly too!!!

But posting anonymous FUD at cafepharma is ultra classy.

The company is very tech savvy and hire nothing but Stanford guys and hire guys away from google, yahoo, and facebook....just hired 4 new founding partners away from google

Yeah. Sounds like they are in real trouble.

If anyone here actually works there, why be a hater? If you really think you are hot stuff in sales, but you aren't familiar with Mac laptops and don't believe that genomics is about computers, a technology startup probably isn't a good fit for you.

No problem! Just say that, shake hands, and surely they'll help you find another opportunity that is a better fit. No need to call people "ugly". Just be a professional about it.

Ummm Yeah! How many quit after the commission checks???

To those of you stating this is not like Quest??

All their DM/RD are Quest guys that couldn't cut it.

High base of 80??? That is all you will make. Doctors stop using this when they find out it is not covered and patients come out of pocket.

Lastly,
You guys saying how high tech this company is and how they give you macs etc =...are complete dumbasses. Seriously how many doctors do you know you technology that is state of the art, especially when it isn't covered by insurance? Doctors have horrible bedside manner and a lot are socially awkward. How do you think you will persuade them to have a cost coversation with their patients?

No posts in months. Anyone selling out in the field have any insight for someone being recruited?

Are you really making insane amounts of $$ like they claim you will?

THanks!
