Contract

It's really annoying to hear everyone complain about a contract job. If you don't like it then quit....there are plenty of people out there that would be happy to have this job...Maybe if you were half as good at selling than you were at whining you wouldn't be on this situation...From all of the contract companies to work for Inventiv is one of the most reputable one. I am on the Endo contract and am pretty content with it. I get the same car as all other pharma reps out there. I'll be making close to 80k this year and have a spouse that also has a job. So between the two of us we bring in a good amount of money. Also, doctors could care less if I'm direct or contract sales force....most of them don't even know the difference....
Also, pay sucks these days...so it doesn't matter if you are being hired with a direct company or contract.....

Nice post. The truth well said.

What are the chances of getting hired direct by a big pharma company after being on a contract representing their drugs? Is this a possibility? I would think that after training us, we would be an obvious new hire choice.

NO a cso is not the same as the others. I have done both and one is a career with tons of bennies and a cso job is for any joe on the street that wants a part time gig to do nothing much for a year or so. Nothing the same in the least. Only to those unable to get a real career opportunity. I was a cso here for 2 months and am now retired. BS job. I could not take the humiliation and embarrassment so I just wrapped it up. For losers.

CSOs are the best of the best/ We are the Navy SEALS of pharma sales. You direct hire schmucks that get fired all the time dont understand.

CSOs rock, direct hires suck cock!

It is embarrassing but a good part time job in the meantime, beats Walmart. not by much I will say

Couldn't take the humilation because you're insecure. Does it really matter what others think. With regards to the benefits etc., things are not all the same. The question is have you been sleeping the past 3 years? There is no career growth in pharma anymore and with more and more companies outsourcing what CSO is where the jobs are. Overall it is the same as big pharma, nobody really sells anything. It's all about repetitive messaging, formulary restrictions and access. Do your job collect your pay and shut up, otherwise go find something else to do and bitch about.

You honestly think that you are better because you worked for a "direct" company? At some point all CSO's worked for a "direct" company...Pharmaceutical companies rarely are hiring entry level reps. So please entertain me...what makes you so much better than us CSO's? And please entertain me and let me know how this is not a real job compared to a "direct pharma" job?

Yes, it is a possibility and it has happen many times. Some people at Endo were hired as Inventiv reps back in 2001 and then were rolled over. So it is a possibility... But I wouldn't bank on it. Pharmaceutical companies, especially the one that specialize in R&D, are recognizing the value of having a contract sales force. They do not want to have to deal with all the BS that goes with having an in-house sales force and instead want to concentrate on their core business, which is researching and developing new drugs. So, if you became a CSO hoping that you will be rolling over into a direct position you might be dissapointed.

Might be? You are a mental midget. Hope you aren't researching any drugs I will take. idiot. You will NEVER EVER get a direct job. Your chances are zero once you have stooped low enough for a contract. You are labeled in this business. Trash. No one is interested ever.

I'm sorry you ego got in the way of doing a good job for the CSO. Many career direct sales reps can't make the transition to a CSO because they are ignorant of what a good CSO rep does (same exact thing that a good direct rep does)and/or have an artificially inflated view of their status, "a rep of a drug manufacturer". As a direct sales rep, you are only selling a drug because someone else in their company was smart enough to bring it to market or buy it from another. However, these same companies continue to partner with CSOs because they help their bottom line, just like a good direct sales force. As far as career path and total comp., there are similarities and differences within CSOs and manufacturers. If you don't like the comp package, don't accept the offer. Last time I looked, many of direct sales reps have been laid off and can't get rehired. That hard on the old career path. So enjoy your retirement and realize the next time you go to your doc, they may put you on a drug that a CSO rep may be selling. I look forward to your ignorant retort.

OUTSTANDING! I'm also getting sick of people not using the right terminology to describe CSO rep's work status. We are nto part time (unless in a job share or some similar arrangement), we work FULL TIME. I'd say "full time just like a direct hire rep" but we all know the entitled direct hire reps don't work full time. The reality is, as this poster describes, 99% of CSO reps have direct hire experience and all direct hire reps out there today are one downsizing away from the same unlucky humbling experience that 99% of CSO reps have already suffered through. It is simply a matter of time and the only reason you have your direct hire job is sheer dumb luck, you lucked into a company that hasn't downsized YET, that's all. Most pharma organizations will employ CSOs in the near future, if they haven't already, so bashing CSOs is like shooting yourself in the foot. You WILL be applying to a CSO at some point if you stay in the industry- that's an absolute guarantee!

Right on! I will LMAO when my worthless, burned out, 9 to 2 direct hire counterparts get laid off, and it will definitely happen at some point. In my district the VSRs are way harder working and way more positive than our direct hired counterparts. The BI folks try to pretent they're good, and they can sort of get away with it because of their culture and the fact that they're private, but they're not really fooling anyone, including their own senior management. You know there are certain stats that BI management can and does use to compare the VSRs to their elite, direct hire, borderline comatose reps right? Guess what those stats show? Yep, we kick their butts in almost every category. Same was true of the Endo contract. Pick your ERM's brain and you'll be surprised what you'll learn. You'll never hear any BI manager admit it, but why do you think they want to "convert" so many of the VSRs? A little hunger is a good thing for performance, and a total lack of it is obviously disastrous- just look at your worthless BI counterpart to see what I mean.
