company car-my back hurts!

Insure that you have no structural problems with your back, no bulging disks, or other skeletal problems. If you are okay go see a good Physical Therapist and get some simple exercises to do to start. Strengthen your back muscles and work on your posture. You might try a seat insert too. The car is not the problem as most seats are pretty much the same. It's a sedentary lifestyle that in most cases causes back problems.

smarty pants, you are so annoying! I run, do yoga, strength train: i.e. I AM NOT SEDENTARY. Still the Malibu is KILLING MY BACK AND NECK. I had the Impala a few years ago and didn't experience the pain that I do with the Malibu.

I'm sure I can out run, out pushup, and out bench you any day

I have been around for awhile, but this year my back started acting up. My doctors says its my car. Anyone else having back trouble with the malibu or fushion?

Get your condition documented by an MD or Chiropractor. Then write a letter to Dr. Ed Mauceri at corporate medical. He can authorize a vehicle that has adjustable lumbar support. He can also authorize vehicles with a raised flat cargo area to further protect your back so you don't have to bend over too far to lift heavy objects like crates full of literature.

You can try doing this but how much do you want to be that this info (about your bad back) mysteriously leaks to your manager, and after a few months washout period, you start getting harrassed out of the company, because you are now a wounded Wildebeast on the Savanah.

Wounded animals will be prayed upon at Novartis...And the buzzards circle over head to finish up the flesh.

No fear. This is legit and in fact you would be protected by the ADA.

Just get proof from your doctor. Surgery,MRI, or other medically compelling reason. The key is documentation! Send to Corporate Health. They may be cutting back on these requests, as they usually result in an upgraded vehicle at no cost to the employee. Upgrading vehicles here and there is better than going to court to prove that a kidney buster go-cart caused an employee some long term damage. BTW, I'm driving a really nice Taurus with leather!

The "back" car for 2012 is a Subaru Forester. It is by far the most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat in. This car is cheap and uncomfortable. I would sit in the Jetta and Fusion before you decide on asking for a Subaru. If you are level II, you may qualify for the Explorer. The Explorer is much better. This company is so cheap when it comes to cars. They could have at least given the Outback instead of the Forester. I am thankful for the free car however the choices keep getting worse and worse. It seems other companies have better choices for fleet vehicles.

As a side note, Paula Cason wants to see a note from your physician with documentation showing your back issue. I had a CT SCAN. Degenerative Disc Disease in L3 and L4 due to car. I work out 4 days a week. The cars are killing us.

Good luck with the back.

Ask for the Subaru--your back may still hurt, but it comes with rainbow bumper stickers saying "Coexist" and you get a coupon for a free butch haircut and Lilith Fair tickets.

To "back" guy I have only one thing to say, fuck off. If you can't drive any car with ease and comfort you ain't cut out for travaling sales rep of any kind. Now if your co were concerned, I mean really concerned with your well being and your importance to them, they could let you drive Volvo or Saab. These two Swedish cars have the best seats in the biz. They are designed in such a way that meet any challenge on the short or long trips. Saab is actually even better than Volvo but unfort. will go out of biz soon, unless miracle happens to save it by next Fri. It is interesting that GM who owned SAAB never adopted their seat technology on their shity cars. Even the "best" GM cars do not give support as Saab or Volvo. In Cadillac for instance one feels like seating on New Orleans bordello sofa not a car that one is drving.
There was a doctor who used to Rx SAAB cars for those patients who could afford them as solution to their back pain. I drive one and never had pain while driving it although am suffering from osteoarth.
Of course the bigpharma cos are getting away from decent co cars and giving you the cheapest transportation aplliances, not cars. Saw Pfizer rep getting into Hyundai Elantra. How low can you go. Instead why not let you buy or lease your own* while they pay you for it's use. Don't think they would for they make so much money dealing in used cars after lease expires that they can't give it up. Also tax advantages are good and in their favour.
So the "back" guy can fuck off or suffer, it's his/her choice for they ain't giong to let you drive Volvo as last of the two choices left.
* In Eurpe Novartis reps (as all drug reps) buy their own. They start with say, VW Golf and work up everytime they change cars. Soon they are driving Volvos, Mercedes, BMW and cars like that. The incentive they have makes it possible. Thus they look and act like real business types respected and appreciated by their doctors. You in America will never do. You just look like Fuller Brush sales reps on wheels. How pathetic. Don't get me going about the way you dress.

Yeah plus NVS charges you 129 for an 89 lease so in essence you are paying the monthly car & partial gas with your "free" car while the co. take the tax advantages .
What a racket.
