Circumcision

Remember the raging playground debates about circumcision and breastfeeding? The board is so anemic it is gasping it's last breath, so here you go:

After research showed that circumcision helps prevent not only STD transmission, but also HIV, the AAP and CDC are drafting a pro-circ position.

While San Francisco puts in a ballot measure to make circumcision illegal (only for men), ignoring the religious rights side of this argument.

I hate to be snippy, but circumcision is right on the cutting edge of politics and religion. Hate to be a dick about it, but maybe cut this off before it starts another pissing contest.

The whole hetro aids thing was way, way, overblown, as a means to gain more funding for the disease. I can see it from your point of view I guess GG. An uncircumcised cock could hold a lot of nastiness.

Just because you don't like discussing LiLo, Charlie Sheen, etc. doesn't mean the board is anemic.

The government should stay out of personal decisions such as circumcision and abortion.

While there are religious issues for some and SF is trying to make it a political issue, for the majority, it is simply a matter of choice and hygeine. I should dig up the old threads. The opinions on this run quite strong even without religion or politics in the mix!

And I agree, this should not be decided by the government but female circumcision is certainly a political and cultural issue.

Altho I should probably know the answer to this, why are baby boys circumsized without any anesthsia. I mean, a scalpel is a scalpel and cutting the skin hurts, doesn't it?

IMO there is so much that docs don't know that they pretend to know. There are theories that the pain of birth itself would be impossible to bear if not for low pain sensitivity in the newborn, so if the surgery is done soon after birth the pain is supposedly less. There are studies showing low pain scores in newborns compared to older kids but you have to wonder if these are accurate. More and more docs are using local anesthesia or nerve blocks though so there is progress thanks to the attention given to the issue due to intense opinions on both sides.

My son had his at a year and a half. He was fine until the anesthesia starting wearing off. Then he started grabbing and saying; "ouchie, ouchie!"

Abortion is such a personal decision that only the individual most affected by it should get to make that call. That would be the unborn baby. So the thing to do is let the child be born, attain legal age and make the decision as to whether he/she wants to continue to live!

Government has a legitimate interest in protecting the innocent and defenseless. Government exists in part to keep one individual from doing violence to another. Government therefore should be right in the middle of the abortion question.

Everything you just said above could apply to circumcision. Everything.

AND I bet your son is circumcised isn't he?

All I am saying is that both are medical procedures that are between you and your physician. Government needs to stay out of that arena, whether you are aborting, getting your son circ'd, or getting a knee replacement.

Please tell me you're kidding! Please!

To compare removing my son's foreskin to killing him in his mother's womb is absolutely insane.

An abortion is not just between you and your physician. There is a third individual involved. You keep trying to dodge this fact and I suppose you have no choice because if you admitted it, you would be admitting that your argument is as poor as it is.

It never ceases to amaze me how low someone can go to devalue human life. Calling the murder of an unborn baby a "medical procedure"? How so very Goebbels of you.
