Base ?

Depends on experience, Could be a lot lower if you are coming in from B to B sales. If you have experience and a good track record it is possible. all depends on what you bring to the table.

So what you're saying is that if someone got a job at Galderma, they would have to actually WORK an 8 hour day.

Working would make sense. Playing a game is what you're forced to do. For example, if I can legitimately get through 16 calls on a Monday, I don't. That would screw me over for Tuesday and so on. If this were truly my decision, I would blow up my calls mon-Wednesday, and focus on triaging issues Thursday Friday. This type of "work" would show few calls on Thursday Friday but I personally work hard and want to succeed. But I'm forced away from this and instead play stupid games. It's pathetic.

This is sooooo true. If the company management focused on hiring really good, reliable professional people to be reps, and then let those reps run their territories as efficiently as they see fit, sales would go through the roof. If the rep succeeds, then bonuses. If the rep fails consistently, then he/she gets replaced with someone more competent. It is really as simple as that.
The complexities of call metrics and micro-management is a cancer brought to free market business by socialist bureaucrats that pose as business men/women, but are simply incompetent boobs masquerading as business people, but are leaning on antiquated socialistic management techniques to fain their superiority. It becomes a game gather then true organic business, and sales lag.
