Are you on a PIP ?

The poster is right. Reference lab sales positions will decline.... As healthcare continues to reform in the years and decades to come, and as innovation allows for more point of care testing, the lab industry is going to change considerably. More work will go to hospital labs, which won't require as many salespeople, it is far more cost efficient....

It isn't exactly like department stores though, it is a technical and complex industry which will require some sales people. Particularly for complex and cutting edge testing.

I am the poster, good points, I think your right on, what I hope to show my brothers and sisters is that at some point you have to change with the industry. There will not be as many lab sales people, those that are left will be selling to IDN's, Insurance(if it still exist in the next few years,Ugh), Hospital systems at the C level, and the very complex, new esoteric test. There is always a group of people that look up one day to find their job gone, and they don't know why. (they are usually democrats, want why that is??? LOL)

the days of catching the Doctor between patients and buying lunches out the wazoo is coming to an end. And good, I would much rather be selling value to a hospital system that catering lunches.

I sincerely hope you all do well, whatever comes about.

I heard all the Genzyme reps in NY and NJ quit? Is this true?

Many have. There's been a steady stream of "it's been wonderful working with you all but it's time to move on..." emails. Amazing how many "great opportunities" have opened up for all these people who have been there for years. Those who remain must be suffering the "deja vu all over again" feelings of watching a gigantic corporate snake eating its own tail. People who are afraid to speak their true feelings are not as productive as people who feel their (informed) opinions and ideas will be listened to and treated with respect. Also, while committees are not in and of themselves a bad thing, often more can be accomplished by two or three people, rather than teleconferences with a dozen or more people, all concerned with their own survival. There is also a general feeling of duplicity and deceit, as promises are broken and a "take it or leave it" attitude prevails.

One thing is for sure. LCA won't be changing its management style anytime soon. I used to think that they just weren't interested in employee input, and I was right. Unfortunately, it goes so much deeper than that. Rule by intimidation; threatened job loss because "there's a lot of people out there who would love to have your job"; a lack of intestinal fortitude on the part of upper management whose lone desire is self-preservation... understandable to a point but let's face it, stupidity is still stupidity and a bad idea is still a bad idea; and this is an exceptional example of a run-on sentence! As you say, speaking your mind, in any form is unacceptable with the result of putting oneself in the crosshairs of the human resources death squad. "Duplicity and deceit" is now the company motto. It's been beyond disappointing to watch the painful descent of LCA from a point of being a pretty good place to work, to its present position at the bottom of the crap heap. Too many stuffed shirt, know-it-alls at corporate and division management levels have destroyed what was once a quality company. Sure every company has its problems and there are no employment utopias out there, but LCA has taken things to all new lows. There are so many people in my division, including moi, who have 20+ years with this company, who are so ready to jump ship. Unfortunately, there aren't any other ships passing by, at the moment. Even if there were, most of us are too old to be considered acceptable for employment. So, we stand by, watch and marvel as the idiot parade marches by. So, grab some microwave popcorn, a soda and a lawn chair, because their are a lot of idiots and the parade is lengthy.

Well said. I used to love my job, but now......it is just a drudgery. The workplace has become stale and the morale is horrible! The "powers that be" can have the place....I can be done with it tomorrow and I would be fine. Which is sad, because there was a time that I would be devestated to leave LCA. Not anymore.

My feeling is that LCA will eventually meet the same fate as Genzyme. At one time a wonderful company, it eventually became bloated and complacent, and a the yes men yessed the company into oblivion. All the pieces are in place, sorry to say.

Labcorp needs to do what genzyme has just done, replace VP's with people from outside the company with new ideas, a fresh set of eyes and well, some talent. Not much of that left after the gg people bailed.
