I had my meeting to day w/ AON. I must say that the representative was a delight to work with. He was extremely helpful over a 105 min. phone call. We now truly understand that we are being ROYALLY SCREWED by Mother Merck!
Maybe, it all depends on your state, we had very few good choices, unless we went into a very restrictive HMO/PPO which we were unwilling to do. The majority of our current providers are not in those networks and we are not willing to leave our current physicians - after 25 years of having them be excellent stewards of our health, we would not consider it.
The drug plans are awful! As others have mentioned, generics are now tiered. One of my drugs is in tier 3 - yes a generic - and will cost over $200/month!! I am paying $20/mo now. There is no low cost alternative- I am stuck with that one. Somehow it does not seem right.
Bottom line - I am paying $280./mo for 2 people, including Part D right now. Add in some generic meds, add about $60 more/mo. Come January, I will be paying more than twice that amount for premiums and Part D - before adding in the cost of our drugs.
Oh,and that subsidy from Mother won't go far.
Yes, had we been willing to give up our current docs and move into an HMO we might have kept our costs about the same, but we wanted to keep our current providers.
BUT - the AON Representative was very nice, especially as he gave us this terrible news.
We have not signed up for anything - yet.
