Please explain what the point of sending people to Denver is , just to kick them out later????

What is the logic behind this.........

Probably wnnt cost that much in the big scheme of things ....they had money budgeted for RPM meetings which are not happening now.

This way they can have the Aliskirin only reps trained on at least 1 product so when layoffs do occur they can slide into whatever they will be selling next if they stay.

Layoffs will be in March so they get 2 months of sales for either EXP, Reclast or Exforge

We are working on restructure as fast as we can, but there are a lot of pieces. We can not just lay off the Aliskiren reps. We have to be fairly equal with what demographics are let go. Aliskiren reps have to have something to do. Maybe training will help to refocus some people in the short term. As everything else we do, this whole thing is about legal ramifications. It has to be done correctly and we can not role it out until it is. The earliest I can see will be the end of Jamuary, but even that will be hard to make. You would never gather it on this site, but administration is trying hard to make the best of a bad thing. The layoff is happening and none of us in the US have control over it, but we are trying to roll it out as humanely as possible.

Yeah uh huh...while I do believe (if you are even in "the know") that they are trying to do it without legal problems and that's why we don't know...we are all numbers they don't care. My problem with this entire thing is that reps/even managers pay for the mistakes that upper upper management makes. They are and always have been ego maniacs. They don't think things through. We sold a drug on theory not science because that is what we were told to do. Look where that got us. As the big wigs sit in their castles and continue to collect paychecks, maybe their bonuses are cut they still pull in a hefty salary we get punished for doing what we were told not what we believed. Evaluated on things for values and behaviors that are completely subjective if you can even figure out what the hell they are looking for. Using mice data (in this legal environment) to try to have MD's make a connection. For what? You had to do it or you were "dinged" by the DM for not being able to "give the corporate message".

In the end it all does not matter. Novartis is in shambles because of greed and egos. They have not been proactive with the changes in the industry because Novartis feels they are above everyone else and laws and rules don't apply. Well they do and again who suffers ? The "little people" who did the dirty work who actually sold Novartis products that fund these people's salaries but its still not enough, never is. If you are bottom 50% it's not enough if you are top 10% it still isn't enough.

Bottom line it's the field that does the "grunt work" and the field who suffers.

Well said and SO true!!

#7 post - so right. The legal issues are what's holding this entire process up. They are definitely afriad that some of the aliskiren reps, who didn't buy into the whole renin "thing", will take this outside of Novartis and create trouble. Don't blame them. What's really disgusting is that this is all upper managements fault, not the reps, yet we have to suffer. Why haven't we heard of downsizing upper management immediately following the announcement? The NFL, banks, Silicon Valley corp., etc waste no time in getting rid of "upper management" folks directly responsible for a major screw-up. Why not Novartis? Something is very deeply wrong at this company. And it starts at the very top. Time for the real crooks to be dealt with as the rest of us will be in March. Wish I was old enough to retire.

I do not work for Novartis directly but am very familiar with your realignment project. Meetings continue to review the maps for your pc division and are close to final. Once approved, your team will apply their biz rules to who fills spots. This is a week out still. After that, I have no idea on your time frame.

Maps and new geographies are much more aligned similar to a smaller company quarter the size approx. Specialties remain similar except for one and I am not on that team. No more ou as you know it now. Central leadership from eh is the recommendation for smaller size.

I hope this helps.

So you mean larger territories? How many reps per territory. Any idea

any thoughts on how the more rural territories are being viewed ? currently some rural territories have fewer reps and that might be a positive, however is it possible that the rural territories would be eliminated and allow coverage from neighboring/more populated areas where 2/3 reps may be retained ??

One rep/territory carries everything. We work off of index values for product potentials. Without going to deep or specific, you can assume everone will have similar population volumes.

If I were you, I'd take some vacation time on the front or back end of the "training trip" & go skiing. Yes you'll have to pay for a few extra nights of hotel stay, but let Novartis pay for your flight.

Im in a metro are we are already down to 2/3 reps per territory and so it goes...I bet NO MORE than 2 maybe even 1

STOP! You may get the same prediction from simply picking a daisy and playing "She loves me. She loves me not." You cross the bridge when you get to it, you have no control over this. Talk to those that were cut at the end of 2010. One department that is sure to experience growth is the Novartis Legal Dept.!

so are you saying that everywhere there will be one rep per territory? Will territories be larger or will the footprint remian the same?

Try not to think of the territories as you know them now. All new carveout. One rep per terr.
