Any info on how this company is?













I've worked at Darby for 7 years and made $269k last year. I love when these wanna be sales reps anonymously blame a company for their situation when haven't opened a new account or have done anything outside the norm to grow their sales. Maybe before they look at their company as the reason they should look in the mirror. I've been growing my sales over $300k a year and have made more money ever single year I've been here. Oh BTW, my experience is that the only people that are "micro-managed" are the people that need to be micro-managed. True sales people that know what needs to be down aren't micro-managed. Maybe you are better suited for a position in customer service if you prefer to be reactive. I prefer to get deals done and get paid.

Joe you are such a tool! You must be spending time with MB under his desk. You are so clueless. With as much as you write do you realize how much more you could be making at another reputable company. You must love getting under that desk.

Gee Wiz this is very alarming, I certainly will no longer place my incoming orders with Joe,
and to Know he makes more $$$$ than My practice! being an incoming phone answerer & order taker? Really very disapointing, I will let all my Group Practice Networks know about this Ludicrous salary!

I came over when Darby bought Becker Parkin and here is what I think.

I sell more than 3 million each year and four times a month I get scolded because my call count is a little low. Meanwhile rookies that sell nothing and reach 200 voice mails per day get cash rewards. The managers are not qualified and know less than the reps do.

The company makes money in spite of itself. If i wasn't stuck here because of my history, I would be gone. You can make good money here but we get no respect and are treated like babies. There are things that are more important than money, like respect.

stand up for yourself! get out! stop them from the pressure you do not deserve

You are obviously a joke just like Darby management. What doctor would be on CP? Grow a pair and come correct.
 




The goal of Darby is to create order takers and kill doctor rep relationships. They want the doctor to just call Darby for orders and make the rep obsolete.

Do you really think that the goal of any sales force is to kill buyer/seller relationships? Anyone worth their salt knows that building relationships is the key to generate sales.

There is a lot of over-generalizations in this thread that really show naiveté. Success can be had in this industry by knowing where you are most competitive within a market.

I work for Darby and we have an inside sales business model. What someone referred to as "dialing for dollars" is a more cost efficient business model enables us to sell the same products at a lower margin than most of our competitors and still remain profitable. That is one of our competitive advantages over Schein, Patterson, and some others.

We are authorized distributors for most of the major manufacturers and have multiple warehouses across the country to offer a great selection and quick shipping.... that is a competitive advantage we have over some of the smaller suppliers.

Great customer service is less tangible and by nature can't be absolute for any company. This is where an individual rep can make the most impact. No doubt there are great reps working at pretty much every company in our industry. I hope there is a consensus that great reps can provide more value to practices over the phone than a mediocre rep can by showing up every Tuesday morning at 10am to pick up a supply list.

On one hand, it would probably behoove me to let some people that have responded to this thread continue to think that because we don't show up at the office that we don't know what we are talking about and don't provide added value. I had a doctor call me today with a minor crisis (he had a patient in the chair and needed to re-cement a Maryland bridge that he didn't put in) He needed to know what he had in the office that would give him the best result since he hadn't put in a Maryland bridge since dental school. He knew that either I would have the answer, or I could get the answer... quickly.

Although our business model doesn't work for 100% of practices, I think more and more doctors appreciate our approach and aren't as reliant on walk-in sales reps. At last count, there are 21 authorized distributors for Dentsply Caulk. That means our customers can buy the exact same Aquasil Ultra from all these companies and expect to get fresh product relatively quickly. I know why they should buy it from me.
 




You obviously don't work for Darby because if you did you would know that Darby reps making over $100k are abundant. It's real easy to figure out. There are many in the larger locations and at least some in all locations.
In the San Francisco Bay Area there is like 1 Darby rep to every 10 Patterson, 10 Schein and 3 Burkhart reps. Not sure about Pearson or if they even have reps.

I hardly ever ran into accounts that had a Darby rep.
 








Darby is horrible. They tout Joe but he is a corporate puppet and has all of the large corporate accounts to manage. They make you sign a non compete and will send lawyers to your door and harass you with legal action once you figure out what a hell hole the place is. Three words: Micro Micro Manage. You are a telemarketer that is not allowed to spend more than 5 minutes on a call with a customer let alone go see one to strengthen relationships. Avoid. Management is the worst in the industry. You will not make money and you will be miserable. You have been warned.
