Another one jumps Xeljanz- RSD bolts to Primary Care

The latest person to bail the Xeljanz sinking ship is another Regional Director-- JB!
And of things he bolted to PC/Internal Medicine. If that doesnt show you how toxic the culture is & the poor HQ leadership w the Pres & VP, then nothing will.

Turnover since launch
100% Pres & VP
80% RDs
65% DMs
40% reps

Amazing dysfunction at the highest level.
Pres & VP totally out of element & at a position of highest level of incompetence & weakness - LEADERSHIP!

Even if lateral or step down, trust me there was no love lost there. JB is super cool humble guy & hates people with arrogance & ego especially when they done nothing to even comp an attitude. Back in his day JB would destroy guys like that just for a warmup!
This is a great move & better culture environment for JB.

JB is a cool guy and he got along great w former leadership. Not so much with new one.
Final straw was pressured by VP to hire a 18month rep for the Tampa DM spot cuz VP has favoritism with her.
A big problem with the vision & future of the division w VP basically mandating the last 4 DMs who bolted the sinking ship be backfilled with Xel reps of whom 2 females only been w X rep for less than 2yrs & all 4 had zero operations or mgt development.

Leadership is so watered down with talent due to the new VP mindset.
Also some of the HQ decisions made has really been a head scratcher.
This is a great lateral for JB as he is going to work for an awesome inspiring & motivating VP that cares about others not himself who has great leadership skills--- not a task manager with no leadership like before.

I think you just summed up the reason the smart savvy talented people have bolted or currently are bolting.
Starts at the TOP and perfect case study of how poor leadership can kill an organization in a very short period of time.

I&I was known to be an elite BU and it is sad to see how quickly it’s sinking. Leadership needs to address the issues and course correct.

Yes it was one of the Elite & highly coveted divisions in Pfizer , up there w Oncology.
Even at launch & prior Enbrel Biologics team was known as "Super Specialty" w Oncology which had higher pay grades.
New leadership has turned into truly a Primary Care division & some reps thing below Primary Care but far below Oncology now.
Whether it is higher & promoting people with no prior experience or the influence of a PC business model of Derm that was put into I&I over a exec drunk happy hour decision.

Agree on all accounts.
Cracks started a few yrs ago with Derm & career PC minded VPs, RDs, Reps influence of Xeljanz. The new Xeljanz leadership has turbo charge the Primary Care business model.
Hiring will make or break a company/division & in Xeljanz's case, it is breaking into a thousands of chard pieces.

Forget all the rep turnover, You only need to look at turnover w
90% of Brand team,
80% RDs, &
50% DMs
to know the division is in big trouble with direction in the future.
One can only take care of themselves & family as in 2020 corp Amer, we are just an empl #.

Not a surprise with another Director/ management person leaving Xeljanz.
The Execs, Brand Team, Management have been bailing for couple of years now.
Reps are now following the past 12m.

So not anything that is shocking. Would be shocked if no turnovers.
PRESIDENT down have left so that should be big red flag & tell you something.
Remember HQ talk is cheap & self serving w 99.9% BS.
We are just a non emotional attached employee #.
Always put yourself & family 1st in career decisions.

Very smart. Probably knew about future cuts CEO reference yesterday & that Xeljanz has too many reps and a RD needs more than just 7-8 DMs. Only need 2 Regions and 12-15 DMs max with 120 reps.
He is now in a space that will be less at risk than Xeljanz division.
Extremely smart move to protect himself from onslaught coming.

Why are they filling the position?

Why are they filling the position?
With 1 yr severance per 1 year of service, it pays to backfill to have reps call on docs now cuz when layoffs happen it only cost Pfizer 1 month salary for a new rep.
Between hiring & layoffs, new hires more than cover their severance pay.
Simple math on short term ROI
(Remember reps are just employee # & a part of a machine)

Just 5yrs ago he was a rep at Norvartis & Amgen. Got in with the Sam coat tail into a RD with Pfizer while having little management exp-- maybe 2yrs.
He's always looking & has been looking for a while as he has changed jobs every couple of yrs for most of his career with different companies.
Nice guy with good public speaking skills just but always job hopping before being developing at any position. This will not be his last move as in a year or two he will be on the move again.
No surprise here.
