Airway Management expansion/new positions

As a company, Karl Storz is a great place to work. If you cannot see the potential with airway or possibly moving to a core role then this is not a job for you. Many of us have had 2 or more jobs where the culture and pay sucks with no light at the end of the tunnel. Thats why we all moved on. Besides pay "promises" (most likely from a recruiter outside KS, who will say anything to you to get you excited for a position, since they are getting paid to place someone), sales reps want a stable, growing company. New products may take a little longer than most but they are getting a lot better with Airway. The KS Airway products are superior to our competitors, hands down. Its our jobs as reps to find the champions in our accounts to drive the product to a sale. If you complain about the high prices then medical sales is the wrong place for you. Go sell copiers or radio advertising. Airway Reps will be making $100K on a consistent basis in the very near future, i gaurantee it.

The hours depend. Some days are short (4 hours), others longer (12+ hours) but it evens out. I've gotten a few calls on weekends from ED, EMS and ICU trials but that is about it. Also you might have to work an occasional meeting on a weekend but it's rare.

I don't feel like an overworked dog here. Good quality of life in my opinion.

Dear Candidate,

You need to read the 150+ postings under Airway/Anesthesia. You have been warned!

I'd like to know this as well. It seems that the compensation here is all over the board. A friend of mine interviewed last year and was told 175 target. WTF. Nearly every post I've seen suggests under 100k.

Plenty of people making the $ mentioned above . If you are not it is because you can not sell. At STORZ you get paid on every deal . Not making good $ = low sales = find another career . We have the best products in the business . I bet the poster above is at the bottom of the rankings .

"best products in the business". Wow you are clueless.

Lol, if they were the "best" products, EVERYBODY would want them and we wouldn't have such a s#itty market share. Idiot.

Can we just skip the commentary and give this guy or gal the math? If I remember correctly, the CR is 12% on new and 5% on repair. Repair is pretty much the only annuity at Storz given the lack of disposables and typically represents 25% of annual revenue. Salary is typically offered on territories that are less than $1m, and it has been around $55k. So ask what the quota is on the patch, then do the math. If it is $750k, then you would make around $133k if these numbers are still correct. I think they pay 14% for every dollar over quota, so if you grew 20% that would be an extra $21k. I've been out for a bit, so it may have changed. I don't think management intended to mislead, I just think they are clueless about analyzing market potential/conditions and misquote comp accordingly.

Wow! Thanks.

What is the payout (%) up to quota? Say your quota is $500,000 and you hit that exactly. Or what if you come in a bit under quota for the year?

It's nice to see someone posting useful info.

In all honesty, just plan on making between $95-$110k. Remember, this division has been around a while and it is a Capital position. The market has already been saturated with scopes and video laryngoscopes, so hitting numbers gets tougher every year, because facilities already have suitable equipment to use. The company is in some disarray lately with management, etc., I don't think $100k is a job worth the headache.

Accurate except for the extra 14% if you go over quota. Also I'd estimate that repair business would be higher than 25% of sales. I'd say more like 35-40%. Also you get paid less if you need to sell at a discount (and more if you can sell at a premium but with GPOs and such this rarely happens). I think airway quotas are between $350k-$900k.

I was told commission averages about 10% on total sales. Any truth to this? I realize it's broken down by new sales, repairs, etc. Thinking about interviewing after the first for an opening. Was told the territory did almost 500k last year. Thanks

Good time to join . Just launched a new product that is a game changer . Storz is taking the lead in the market .

Taking the LEAD in the market?? The only thing that we are considered even remotely close on would be rigid scopes. Don't mislead potential reps to think that airway products are on the cusp of taking the "airway market". That "market" you speak of is completely saturated with competitive products... And that was way back when we had it in our bag as an extra device to sell.
