Account Manager - Neuroscience

It will be some hard slogging at first as it will only have the schizophrenia indication. Granted Abilify is a $4bil drug but If you have any experience in psych you know that it is not mail e of the first choices for schizophrenia. Hopefully other indications are following.

hate to burst your bubble but I am a middle aged white guy and got hired. So strike that from your post.

Great , you are NOW THE MINIORITY! Prepare to dance hip -hop and talk jive at meeting. It will be a whole new language you never knew existed.

I will move on look of something else. These companies that promote diversity are reverse white discrimination!!!

I am a middle age white male who was fortunate to get hired by Otsuka. Fortunate in that in a shrinking industry and bad job market overall the hiring manager thought I would be a good fit for the territory. While I had over 18 years of pharma experience, only 3 of it was in neuroscience. This was for an existing account manager job that opened up due to a rep making an geography change. It was not for the Depot spots. My point is why should it matter if you are black, white, old, young, fat, skinny, etc. My manager said he had a ton of resumes for the position. I was lucky to get noticed by a recruiter in the first phase of the process but then it was all up to me to close the deal. Now that I am with Otsuka I have several out of work pharma friends calling me daily hoping I can get their resume to the hiring manager. From what I gather the screening process is VERY specific, if you are missing one thing they will not consider you. That all aside I would hope this Otsuka thread is a bit more civil than some of the other company threads where people come out and make caustic, silly remarks. To those of you who really want to work for Otsuka, best of luck it is a good company. Small yes, alot of busy work, yes that too, but not fat and bloated with too many sales reps with other companies whose pipe lines have dried up. Its a job, a paycheck and if I can get 5 years out if it I will be in the position to go year to year then and retire on my own terms. Happy Memorial day weekend to all.

Thank you for your post. It is refreshing to see someone make a reasonable comment on this website. I am glad things have worked out for you. Congrats!

Ditto to the last poster. It is a positive sign that there are jobs out there that go to people who dont fit the usual Cafe Pharma lets throw a dart at you type of post. I too have heard Otsuka is a good company. Hey if there is a bit of micro-managing so what? It's a job!

Yes...they micromanage BIGTIME. They are worse than the other pharma companies I've worked for. I think Otsuka is a good company, but they are very into micromanaging, and it gets worse and worse. Your manager can make it for you or break it for you-mine is ok--not great but ok. He can be a pain at times. The bonus isn't that great either, but it's a job. I don't think Otsuka micromanaged 5 years ago anywhere near as much as they do now. Plus, they are big on their business plans , call averages, etc. Be prepared to be watched.

Agreed, im about 6 months on the job and they METRIC things to death. Unrealistic call averages, plenty of money to spend on dinner programs and lunch teleconferences, and a business plan that even the best of CEO's would say its a bit over the top. But the pay is good, love my Ford Edge and the people in my district are solid. That aside I think the previous poster stated it is all about the manager. If he/she is a realist you can survive. If they are big time Kool aid drinkers who knows. But we are small in terms of sales size, and if son of Abilify does hit the market in 2014 it should provide most of us with a few more years of work.

I interviewed for the AM - neuro position yesterday and told this was the last day they were interviewing for this position. Offers should go out today and next week

And you bought that? Dude, they tell everyone that...wake up. How about some swamp land in Florida that I got for sale. You in? Wow, bud. You do get that 99% of what you are told is untrue regarding your "status" in the candidate pool. right?

I agree. No physician wants to come to a dinner program for a drug that's been out this long. Pay is decent, bonuses are not all that great, but you are micromanaged. I think it's gotten far worse the past 3 years. New management means more micromanagement in the field. Abilify is a good drug, but they give us nothing new to sell with. It's a joke. Clinicals are 6 to 10 years old.

Agree too... plus now with these new Abilify Depot hires on average there will be two more reps per territory. The new hires will sell oral Abilify till October 1st and then go full force on depot, but the overkill will turn off alot of docs. Good company but they are trapped in a time warp of a decade ago. This whole industry should hire less managers and let them manage say 20 reps per region, one field ride a quarter, excluding meetings. 2 day field rides are a total joke now.

agreed

too many reps with the same message--need to stop with the push for dinner programs when dr.'s won't come or the same ones come--waste of money and time and i can't get anyone to attend anymore. nothing to sell with-antiquated computers that don't work metric things to death micromanagement trackers, too many calls required per day when everyone lies about them anyway-etc etc etc etc etc
