You will still be employed for 2 months after your notification of dismissal, it is important that if you are going to buy a car, you do so during this time period. Also try to do so before the company cancels your Amex as this might negatively affect your credit rating. I got a brand new car with a zero interest loan from a new car dealer and found it to be a better deal than one of these big named Used Car dealers. If a dealer wants to move a unit he will be willing to deal....do your homework and bargain hard for the best price and financing.

You will of course need to modify your spending habits to not deplete your savings and separation pay. There are jobs out there folks. Your JOB will be looking for a job. Good Luck.

Never let the bastards get you down.

I would never buy a new car. There are great deal on late model used cars
I have been wanting to get a small size SUV like BMW or Volvo and this will give me an opportunity whether I have a job or not.

Before you go with BMV or Volvo consider the maintenance costs which you will now be paying for yourself. You can maintain (and fuel) a good Ford, Chevy or Suburu for a fraction of what it costs to maintain a premium import. I had an Audi A6 for a while. Bought it used, off-lease with low miles. It only took a few $200 oil changes and a $1200 brake job to realize it was too rich for my blood. Be careful what you buy and don't let pride get in the way of taking care of yourself and your family properly.

Good luck.

They will not let you keep the car for those 2 months. It is picked up rather quickly. And I remember something like if you ignore the calls from the company who picks up the cars, your severance is in jeopardy.

I was laid off last year and looked into getting a used Volvo suv. For some reason they are difficult to get! Most people lease new ones and the used ones available were only the traded in ones with over 40,000 miles. That's too many miles for a good investment.

Ford Chevy is ok in my eyes. I really like the Acura MXK which are always rated the best by Consumers report. I do understand the maintenance cost of Volvos as I had one for year.
You have a good point and ultimately i probably will get something that doesn't require alot of cost in maintenance.

Thanks for the feedback

I find it funny that posts keep getting removed at the same time that cafepharma is "black" to protest legislation in congress.

To everyone who thinks that RT is some sort of profit or friend of yours, you are stupid. Anyone that did not look for another job after the last layoff is an idiot. I will laugh at all of you dummies that get let go and then run around not knowing what to do. Be sure to check back often for advice on you post Novartis career.

And to those of you who will be left, that will be even better. Your territory will rest exclusively on your shoulders and you will fail.

This RT moron should pull an R Bud Dwyer. By the way, I sleep fine at night, losers.

You are a jealous, pitiful little man. If you don't like it, don't read it. I suspect you are jealous because you will always be a big fat baby. Some people in this world simply want to share what they have learned--obviously you are too dim to understand

No, I am smarter than most people. I am also skinny. I think you are the jealous one because I am better than you. I don't really care what you or this RT fella has to say. Keep responding because this is fun.

Enjoy being miserable in pharma. I don't know what to do, I might lose my job! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Please help me RTBKPL!!!!

The Bud Dwyer thing is wrong! I never liked RT's pontificating while with Novartis, like him better now. Still, while I didn't care for his know-it-all remarks, he still has the right to say 'em, and we have the right to disagree. But, Bud Dwyer and blowing out the back of your head??? Not cool. Hey RT, continue to watch your six glider boy.

Wow this is getting pretty mean.
To the skinny, smart dude- why don't you just go do what you do best
and leave all of us stupid people to just read and respond to these posts
And no I am not one of the ones crying, I for one can't wait to get
The hell away this company but I do like to see other people intelligent opinions

I was given a date by which I had to return the car. I called and made arrangements for that day specifically.

"To everyone who thinks that RT is some sort of PROFIT?" I think most of us are intelligent enough to know he is not a PROFIT. He may be PROPHET but not a PROFIT. Thank you for all your advice, I will ignore you and pay attention to him. I actually know the guy and if I was back peddling pills I would love to have him as a counterpart.

You are doing a great job ignoring me, thats why you feel the need to respond. I heard that you two are queer lovers. I know that this RT is a coward. Everytime someone disagrees with this f*g all you losers rise up to defend him and he disapears. Obviously you have envy for those smart enough to not get fired.
All the lemmings can jump off the cliff now.
Don't let this bastard keep you down, yuck!!!

Pray tell, how many pharma reps saved money for such an occurence?

Less than 10%. Reps spend it like drunken sailors, that fact has never changed.

Good luck going to the local used car lot and getting financing for your $5,000 "creampuff"

LMAO!!!

A bet all the women have the cash in the bank from the lawsuit. Hopefully they stuck it in the bank for a rainy day which is coming in April

Yep, you're bigger, faster, smarter, richer, more proactive, funnier, better at sales than everyone left at Novartis, and...obviously your own biggest hero. I can't wait until I'm like you a year from now, in my dream job, surfing the old Novartis threads telling everyone how great I am...

exactly.

you guys get so fired up over this stuff. chill out

I think all the OP was trying to say was that it will be a lot easier to line up 0% APR when you are able to say "yes, I am employed and I make x dollars yearly". Novartis will agree until your 60 days are up. Just a word to the wise...
