2020 plans

I sincerely hope you guy in chronic care have your shit together because it’s happening. I have heard the discussions and this fall will be a 33% reduction with the entire division gone by 2021. Merck will focus on specialty products that drive revenue and profitability

Also, don’t forget that if you did not turn 55 last year, 2017, you lost retiree medical subsidy. Pension lives until the end of next year, the retiree medical was quietly changed without much notice.

If you did not turn 50 by the end of 2012, you were dropped out of the normal subsidy (regardless of years of service). Starting this year, those who are 55 or younger get a very high premium because retiree medical is now age based, not age plus years of service.

If you are 55 with 30 years of service in 2018, your medical cost is the same as someone with 10 years of service and age 55. The subsidy has pretty much wiped out.

To get the normal subsidy, you had to be 55 no later than last year.

Everyone focused on pension freeze at the end of 2019 but the bigger issue is retiree medical is pretty much gone.

If you retire at 60, 62, anything before age 65 and Medicare you will have company coverage for medical and that is the important part as many people do not. If a person gets a layoff before Medicare with other industries, it is prohibitively expensive to obtain medial coverage.

true, but medical subsidy pretty much gone if you are 55 or younger. If you dont believe me, run the model through netbenefits.com

The company subsidy is the same as Obamacare now.

For a 55 year old the premiums are $550 if you are single, $1175 for employee plus spouse $1725 to cover under 26

If you are 56 this year, the premiums are half of these numbers. Company stuck it to those born in 1963 or later, regardless of years of service.
