New job or stay?

I am curious to know what people are thinking? I’m thinking of looking for a new job but also love this job. I’m the bread winner of my family and I’m scared that I’m not going to make money and could lose my job in the near future. What are you all thinking! Will it be okay?

Do not wait. Recruiters are (always have been but more so now) diligently targeting TMs for open positions. Get your name and resume out there immediately. Be among the first in line. Don’t die on the vine being complacent. There will be no warnings while downsizing is being planned. The company needs to keep everyone in place and feeling secure until the layoff calls take place. You will thank yourselves later for being proactive now!

People like you make me sick! Why not wait and see how things pan out. The grass isn't always greener and if they find out you are interviewing...

Make you sick? I have a mortgage, wife, kids, tuition, food and a ton of bills to keep my family afloat. I’m losing sleep over this decision. I love this job but writing is on the wall. I know my RM is out the door before ASM so that doesn’t help.

I think you just have to be honest and fair with yourself. Throw the fact that it’s a really great device and working with patients is awesome out the window. The study wasn’t positive and things are going to change significantly. Revenue will shrink and insurance companies will absolutely refuse to pay for mi patients with a low ef.

Do you believe that company will do the right thing and lower revenue expectations, and guarantee people a more dependable income? Will they float this very large (even by pharma standards much less device) sales force through a tough time or will they cut a large percentage of internal and customer facing employees? Will the ADs and VPs, some of whom are an absolute embarrassment to the industry, suddenly change and become positive forces for good?

I for one have worked at other device and pharma companies with better leaders and better cultures and seen this end badly. I think it’s foolish to hope for a different outcome here.

Well said. I’ve heard others ask as you did whether the company will do the right thing and lower revenue goals. It’s not even a matter of whether goals will be adjusted downward. As you alluded to, the size of the sales force is far too big for the market. This was already being acknowledged by upper management before VEST. Now the game has changed dramatically for the worse. The sales force will be right-sized no matter what. If you’re in a dense city with several TMs you’re probably most at risk. Start connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn. Start networking with previous colleagues. Chat up customers’ office staffs. They often know of rep openings. Update your resume. Start saving ranking reports and other performance info from LVN onto your computer or thumb drive. Everything you do to open up your search now will give you a head start.

Go spend your tech allowance today. Don’t wait. Layoffs aren’t happening tomorrow. But in a few short months the other shoe drops. Drain the tech allowance, get reimbursed. You’ll be glad you got the free stuff (not really free but you know what I mean).

Also, start laying the table with your cardiologist customers. Let them know that you realize the LV has questionable utility. Rebuild your credibility before you leave.

What do you mean make you sick? This is the same org that has been completely satisfied with 40% turn over for years, and has done little to address the issue. I was told “Why address it when we lose absolutely no ground when one rep leaves and other fills their shoes?” And you expect loyalty from the sales team? To the original poster, “Stockholm syndrome is a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity. These feelings, resulting from a bond formed between captor and captives during intimate time spent together, are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims.” Start looking to protect yourself and your family. There are organizations where you can making a great living, and enjoy job security.
