lying about pay

I am a very seasoned and successful device rep who has been approached multiple times with intuitive. On paper, the company looks great. Nice financials and the "open surgical case factor" I love. First company I have looked at in years. However, I make 200 plus and they said at plan $250K. Doesn't look like that based on some of these boards. My work hours/expectations are tough but to make a jump requires the opportunity for serious money. Can anyone comment? Are they lying to me? Appreciate it...

What position? CSR or capital guy? Do you work 14 hours a day right now? If you are looking at CSR, be prepared for that. For somebody already making 2 bills an extra 50k is not worth the move unless you are really dumb, really desperate or both.

The reality is that you can earn series pay..up to and over 260k each year but you have to work from 7am-7pm every day and deliver. This is really a 3 year gig at most and they have trouble recruiting because they are so tough on people...unless you know the secret handshake. people are not promoted based on merit, but based on how well you b.s. they respect a persons ability to schmooze behind the scenes and they don't care about anything other than hitting your number. They are interviewing tons of pharma reps because they know these people will do anything to get into "device" sales, but seasoned reps stay away and the proof is how hard it is to actually have a full head-count. You will get constant "feedback" which means they question everything you do, every conversation you have, and management works hard to develop their listening skills so they can find your weakness and exploit it. This company talks about trying to make you better through these "feedback" sessions, but they are really looking at finding your weakness and delivering pain to you. If you have tough skin and want to improve your sales skills, you will, or you will be let go.

I am in pharma sales. My sister is a Urology OR nurse and supports the surgeons on davinci cases. I don't know much about device sales but my sister says it can be very stressful in the OR when things go wrong and the surgeon starts yelling at everyone especially the reps. Is all device sales long hours and high pressure? I've been doing pharma 20 years but have another 20 years to work. I know I've been spoiled and soft but at least I know it and I'm trying to do something about it before I get downsized. I just don't think I can handle intense pressure and 12+ hour days. Please advise.

it's quite ironic you would write what you would write this.
Today, is my 20th year anniversary in pharma. I am equally
Contemplating my future as I have about another 20 productive years to work.

Good luck on your future decisions and may god bless you to make the best decisions about your future.

I know quite a few people that work as CSR's and most of this post seems to be right on. The only issue I have is w/ the $260K and over #. The issue w/ the CSR gig is that you're capped at around $220K which includes your car allowance. So unless you're counting selling off stock options in that $260 # you're too high.
Whatever the pro's and con's of this job are, the fact is they can't keep reps and are turning to Pharma reps dying to get in. As a seasoned device rep myself, I'd stay away from a job that I could've had when I left pharma.

You're already admitting to being soft, doubting you can handle the pressure and enduring 12+ hour days. Look for another position in pharma where you can have a comfortable living. You already know everyone will hammer you on why after 20 years you finally want to get into medical device. There is nothing wrong with staying the pharma route as long as you are content and happy.

Best of luck.

Do the CSRs reallly make average payout of over 200k last year?
I heard benefits are weak, anyone want to be any more specific than that?

As far as case expectations per quarter, looks to me like 3-4 cases a day. With new surgeons who I've seen take FOREVER on one robotic case, how on earth do you make your case quota?

Easy...you don't make the quota. That target pay is part luck...you have to have full utilization going on.

Lot easier to keep your high paid reps still living in a bit of fear. Pay the few well, scare the others into working hard.

Company growing like crazy though, I'm sure it all depends on the market.

Everyday you must call in how many cases you did. They are on your ass like white on rice. With the growth they are getting they can ride you. You can make great money here but it is a lifestyle not a job and most people do it about 2 years unless they get promoted which is also very likely if you do well. Not easy and not for everybody. Very cutthroat culture. Good luck.

ASM- area sales manager= capital/robot salesman.

No ASR made a million dollars here, last year or ever.

Dont be stupid.

ASR target comp 325k = about 8 robots sold

Clinical Rep = CSR target comp 210k if you don't get fired.

The Intuitive stock options are now over 300 dollars= not good.

Why would anyone want to join this company now?
Terrible environment and culture.

The big money days were largely from
2004-2008.

so what does a clinical sales manager make? is their job any better or worse than the other jobs discussed?

No,

Intuitive burns through their CSM's like a pick up truck burns gas haulin down an old country road.

I've seen so many CSM's get hire and fired.

CSM's are targetted to make around 250-275k but truth is, most do not.
