Novartis Earnings Top; Swiss Drug Giant Soars

Novartis (NVS) on Thursday reported core earnings of $1.34 per share on $11.76 billion in sales for its second quarter. In the year-earlier period, Novartis earnings were $1.18 a share and the Swiss drug giant reported $11.34 billion in sales. Novartis stock soared before Thursday's open.
