Zetia/vytorin franchise: What's up?

Former S/P CV rep here, let go early 2010 - moved on with my life.

Just wondered how things are with Z/VY.

I loved selling Zetia, was fairly successful given the MC hoops docs had to jump through.

Is the market share still declining? Stabilized?

What is the current MS nationwide?

No longer in pharma sales, don't have any way to guage situation from my former supporters.

Just curious - and please, be gentle!!

Here's what's up: They were shit products with questionable, if not negative, value when you sold them and they haven't gotten any better. Give me good old Zocor any day.

Relax man. These products deliver 4 billion + to the top line, shit or not shit. Granted that if the MSP group hadn't screwed up, they would be 6.5 - 7 billion today. Growing slowly and might never hit 5 billion. They may be shit to reps because they have become commoditized and the growth prospects are, at best, modest. But 4 billion is 4 billion!

The lack of evidence goes to the top of Merck and SP, before the merger. What could you expect MSP to do when handed a bag of dung?

I am a Merck employee. The day the bad publicity came out, I asked my family physician to switch me away from Vytorin back to Zocor and a fibrate. I don't want to be a guinea pig.

I heard the current franchise combined is less than 8 % nationally. Curious if that is true, and what the current breakdown nationally for each product individually, because if the numbers are true from what I have heard, how the hell is this product a $5 billion drug. Also, what happened to that douche Bob McMahon. All I remember was him telling us to keep selling a product the company doesn't advertise on TV anymore.

Let me help you with this one Einstein, they designed a study that had too many downsides and very few upsides and when MRL found out or did not find out that the baseline CIMT of these Heterozygous FH types who'd been treated so aggressively for so many years was normal they should have stopped the study! Those folks do not have a tendency to become more normal but decidely abnormal! That whole study was more 'pie in the sky shit' like VIGOR which also bent Merck over! Nobody gives a rats ass about developmental studies anymore vs. marketing studies and few are savy enough to know the difference! Let the damn NIH do developmental studies and kill the patients, hell the government kills enough folks all the time anyway a few more will not matter to them! Research at a pharmaceutical company can never include folks who are 'asleep at the wheel'!

This shortsighted perspective precisely shows the stifling effect of industry driven research as we've produced in every single zetia trial. These trials belong only in academia without the misguided meddling of Merck and other profit-driven interests. Probably not a popular opinion on this site, but the time has arrived for some adult supervision on industry research.
