Year of the Pharma Mergers

In the fall of 2008, we were all funnelled in this huge auditorium for a special powerpoint presentation by Carrie Cox at SP. The powerpoint showed on the graph where all the pharmaceutical companies stood at the time. Merck was at the bottom. SP was much higher at the middle. She stated to us all that "2009 was going to be the year of pharmaceutical mergers". Little did we all know that the Merck/SP merger was already in the making! Unbelieveable! If SP was doing so well, why merge with Merck? Simple, Merck was not doing well, and needed help. So here we are today. The New Merck. Who know's by 2012 or 20013, perhaps another merger will be on the horizon!
