Would you consider Olive Garden a ‘cheap date’?

I have always considered Olive Garden a nice restaurant. I understand that it is a chain but I have always thought the interior and menu gave off a classy vibe. The atmosphere allows me to feel as though I have been transported to Italy for a few hours and just generally always enjoyed dining there.

I told my friends I was planning to take my girlfriend there for a special occasion (1 month anniversary). They laughed at me and actually said Olive Garden is a “shithole”. I was completely caught off guard but then I realized 2 of the 3 of them have never even been to Italy.

Are my friends off base here? Or am I totally crazy?

Posting here as my girlfriend works at a biotech.

Your gf is sick of Olive Garden as she probably has it catered in a couple times a week to her offices. Take her to somewhere much more classy like Hooters!!

If you think Olive Garden is fine dining you are lost and in need of a true good meal. I assume the parents never took you out to eat anyplace good.
