This is actually a good idea, if enough employees (at least a couple hundred) participate. It's atrocious that he was granted a $6 million raise earlier this year ($21 million annual salary) as a reward for all of his failures. As staff and shareholders, we need to communicate that this is not acceptable. A protest in front of B38 would be symbolically ideal, though a public intersection would ensure media coverage and that it's not immediately disbanded by Security. We could all wear goggles and lab coats to attract media attention and minimize the threat of retaliation.

How many of us will participate? Instead of sitting around talking anonymously about it, how many of us will finally stand up and fight against the greed from KS and gang? Are we organized enough to do this? We are all smart people, but we need to show each other, we are not alone in how we feel. Will you participate?

Count me in too! I got several ideas for my sign at the Occupy Ventura protest yesterday.

If we do it, we should make sure that there are enough people to be posted with signs at all the exit streets from the executive streets. Biotech Court, One Amgen Center Drive, Pauling Drive and the exit by B-23. That way, unless they charter an escape helicopter, the bosses will have to see it, even if only for a few seconds. And they will know that all the employees, and the local public will be seeing it too.

I would argue that a demonstration in some highly visible location in TO would be more effective. There is nothing the Amgen monkey mucks would hate more than negative publicity and a group with picket signs say at Moorpark and Hillcrest would get that. They can't be personally shamed because they have no shame. A few ideas for signs:

Amgen = Corporate Greed

$21 Million For What?

Kevin Please Resign

Amgen: Jets over Employee Jobs

The Amgen Values: Greed, Greed, Greed

Let's keep this discussion going and then let's DO IT!

I have 2 suggestions for Occupy Amgen; 1. Round up as many folks from the 2007 layoffs to take part, they have nothing more to lose, whereas current employees may feel their jobs are at stake. 2. With the stock options granted to employees, it should be easy to get a high enough percentage of shares to make a few demands at the next shareholders meeting. Make the suggestions/demands simple and uncontroversial; like if layoffs are announced the executive team must take a 20% pay reduction for the next 1-2 years. Good Luck!

Agree that Moorpark and TO would be a good idea. I also agree that we should have clear and simple demands (made now, not at the shareholder's meeting). We need to look professional and organized in both our appearance and demeanor, and with a consolidated voice stating reasonable demands (and outrage). Otherwise, the public perception might be that the protestors "deserved" to get laid off. We should strive to get media attention (and I think the story will sell), but since it might take some time to get it, maybe we should start this weekend, with our protest culminating by noon on Monday, just hours before the Q3 earnings conference call. An ideal goal would be to generate enough media buzz that journalists attending the call will ask about the poor return on investment and loss of talent (layoffs) in light of the executive staff compensation. Put KS and his cronies on the Board of Directors on the spot.

You need to spread the word and build numbers quickly- not just a handful of pissed scientists. That won't draw enough attention- although a few in labcoats would be a nice touch.

Your goal should be to draw attention to yourselves immediately and switch the attention from the earnings call to the layoffs. Don't let the message be earnings are down and spending is up so we're addressing it through removing costs via layoffs. Bring attention to the executive salary increases paid by cutting jobs from working families and an overall failure of leadership.

Sorry I'm not in ATO to help.

Just an idea from the recent NUT email....

anonymous email to everyone about occupying Amgen? Do you think it would be blocked? Maybe during the day so a lot of people see it before IT catches on....

SATURDAY?!?!

I had hoped it would be a time during working hours to make it apparent to other fellow Amgen employees sharing our feelings, but not on this board.

But I guess that would require a day off or use looking like a strike.

Amgenites should take courage and inspiration from the Libyan rebels who got rid of Gadhafi today. There is no reason why we can't remove KS! If enough people protest and, as a result, Amgen gets bad press, he will be forced to go.
