Why is J&J laying off R&D staff in the Ottava?

Does J&J really plan to abandon R&D? I recall that during the 2023 layoffs, the team working on the second-generation robot was significantly affected.
This time, does J&J also intend to discontinue R&D on the first-generation robotic system?

Yes!!!!!!!! Because it's 5 years behind the competition!

Why shouldn't Ottava R&D be laid off? What is the accomplishment of the Ottava? Intuitive is probably at least 2 generations ahead. The reason for Ottava being late is most likely not because of the engineers doing the work but that is how big corporations work. Besides being integrated with a table, what differentiates Ottava? Some would argue the cons of being integrated with a table outweigh the pros.

Being a robotic company is not in JNJs DNA - and it shows for 20+ years. They have too many fingers in the healthcare pie. Totally agree it is not the engineers, it is the leadership. I would love to read a book from an engineers perspective of all delays, problems, fits and starts, leadership direction and misdirection with Ottava over the years. It would be a great case study for MBA classes.

Being a capitol equipment business is not in J&J DNA. They will continue this robotic nonsense for couple more years then either a major legitimate robotic acquisition or they will pull all funding with ensuing bloodbath.
