Why Hire For Open AZ Positions?

Ethical? What does that have to do with it? There will be plenty of idiots who wil apply, only to be let go by years' end, or sometime early 2016. Publicis is THE worst CSO company out there, by far!

Do you think the blame should fall on Publicis if the DS-4 contract ends early? I think not.
AstraZeneca is the one calling the shots about the contract.

Publicis is obligated by contract to provide sale people. AZ needs to authorize a Publicis hiring freeze if the positions are going away.

Maybe the bulk of the DS4 positions ARE NOT going away

AZ is the absolute worst for contract. You will be paid like a fast food worker then tossed....
Definitely not for people with more than 1 or 2 years selling....total waste unless you have never had a real pharma job.

Everything AZ touches with contract is the same. Bottom tier pay. Their regular reps make rocking pay, we get crumbs in comparison. Now they're expecting us to do more with no pay hike? Start looking for a new job, these jobs ruin your resume.

I was just in training in Wilmington and 3/4 the class was d4 hires!?!?
I asked if they were guaranteed a position and they said no. Shocking and ridiculous for AZ to hire these folks in this time.

Never again, but that is why any company uses contract. They can dump teams without benefits or severance. Their bottom line stays strong and ours take a drop off the cliff. It's the same with all these contract jobs. You can't look for stability in any of them.

You can look for stability in any job anywhere, but you won't find it. Stability comes from being good at what you do.

As for "their bottom line stays strong, and ours take a drop", it is helpful to understand why representatives are deployed in the first place. It is also helpful to understand that cost/benefit evaluation is done in every company in every industry every day. Sometimes by brilliant people, sometimes by people insulated from accountability. Sometimes with good information, sometimes with no clue, or no care.

As long as you are an employee of any company, you are a tool. That includes senior management. It certainly includes those who decide whether to extend contracts. It's not a bad thing, it just is what it is.

The real bottom line is productivity, but having that productivity recognized is important, too.

Do stuff that makes you recognized. The rest will take care of itself. If everyone else does the same, you are good. If they don't, you are still good. Makes no difference where you happen to work. You need to focus on what you can do for others, not on what any particular company can do for you. Try opening up your own shop. You will find the same rules apply. You will be a tool of your customers. Every company is.

Publicis is giving you an opportunity to be the best you can be. Use it! They want you to. And, no other company I know of is better at recognizing the contributions of past employees. Good luck with this whole thing. I have no clue what is going on here, but I have seen it happen many times. Contract craziness. I have also seen the deer in the headlights look of employees of major manufacturers when the word comes down. Severance is nice sometimes, but it's never enough.

FWIW. Keeep a positive mindset.

Reps can do well here!

You can actually be a superstar, on paper.....but remember, you will still be rewarded with chicken feed.

If life is tough take anything, but keep looking for the meat and potatoes....and that, my friend, is not found in contract.

I would agree, but in this instance, they specifically said that layoffs will be based on access and not performance. So even a top 25% rep (like myself) is potentially going to get the axe because of access in my territory as determined by the wonderful consultants at ZS Associates and Cognizant.

India has all the answers.
