Why don't you just have some pride and leave?

This is my first post but I have been scanning these boards for the past three years! I have been with Merck for a while now and there have indeed been numerous ups and downs in that time - I have lost many friends to bad decisions, I wasn't always rewarded correctly and many other issues but there have also been many up's!

We have a pretty easy life compared to other industires and I feel especially the sales force has a particularly easy ride in comparision to our HQ colleagues! You will not want to hear this at all but I have also had two stints at Whitehouse and when I was there I worked close to 18 hours as a minimum per day and I can only compare that to the few hours we put in the field and thank my lucky stars we are here!

Many posts claim poor leadership and I grant that not everyone is great at the job BUT you guys wouldnt have a chance in those roles - if you did you would have stepped up to the plate by now and not drifted along.

You want to get the benefits of the old days then work your socks off and add value or just simply leave for other companies or industries - But i bet you are scared or feel Merck owe you a pay off - they dont because you simply havent put enough in!

Think about the big picture and whoever you work for, be loyal and proud of it or just LEAVE!!!!

Thanks for your prospective. Who is this? Ken? Adam? Riad the ripper?

Pretty tough to read but you may have a point - I enjoy my job but maybe dont go out 60% of the time I should be out there! Not lazy but I dont see the point most of the time which leads me to ask myself am i worth my salary fully.

If we were commission only there would be a backlash indeed LOL

Lets not bash the poster - its just his/her opinion (thanks Ken)

If you were working 18 hours per day then you were ripped off by the company!

you only get paid for 40 hours (yes Professionals are based upon that as well)

you have wasted your time for what? you could have been doing something with your family or friends instead you chose to give your time to a company who in the end doesn't give a rats ass about you or how hard you worked.

Nobody on their deathbed has ever said "I wish I had spent more time at the office".

Anyone who works 18 hrs. a day, send e-mails at 3-4 am to co-workers, and spend entire weekend preparing presentations needs to have his or her head examine.

Let me tell you about my pride. I'm proud to pull down a six-figure salary in my pretend career as a Merck sales rep. I'm also proud to pretend to actually give a shit about that career. I'm very, very proud that I can do this "work" and only invest about ten hours per week. But I'm most proud of the business that I've started on Merck's time. It's growing nicely and I'll soon be in a place where losing my Merck job, which is inevitable, won't matter.

FU Merck.

10 hours per week? BRAVO. That is nine more hours than Ids, Naes and mads put in.
