Why did Geodon sales hit $1 billion?

The team that took a potentially cardio-toxic, black boxed, bolded warning, BID-dosed, food-dependent/poorly absorbed drug and generated $1 billion in sales would have grown Lipitor to at least $20 billion/year in sales.

I was a psych rep with Wyeth. i asked many of my psychiatrist docs if they Rxed Geodon. They all said no, the drug sucked and they felt bad for the Pfizer reps selling it.

Maybe it's being written in other countries, and its price is exceedingly high to make up for no marketshare and volume?

Anyone notice that all Pfizer product's prices are exceedingly expensive? Pfizer seems to be a price leader in every category for comparable efficacy of a generic in its clinical trials (at least the ones you never hear about.)

In some parts of the country they can't keep Geodon on the shelves. Maybe just the reps in your area suck.

Maybe, but these psychs were big time branded writers and some were well known of the national level. They all said the same thing. Geodon was on the bottom of their lists and found it worked for an extreme minority of patients. They tried hard when it came out to make it work, but it just didn't. It's their last choice.

I asked at least 15 psychs who didn't all see the same Pfizer reps.

That's impressive it can't stay on the shelf. What's the market share?
