Why Biotronik?

This was the question posed to the field January of this year and continues to be asked. Why Biotronik? It began with the statement "We are different". For the field, this question "Why Biotronik", has taken a whole new meaning. Every company has good and bad reps. Every company has stand out products one day and find themselves behind the curve the next day. There will always be haters and false accusations about companies in the CRM space and even some accurate accusations toward your competitors. With that said, Biotronik was indeed different. Their approach to innovation, I believe, is spot on and should be given significant consideration by any customer. I worked for Guidant back when it was honored as being one of the top 100 companies to work for and the business was fun in those days. Not for the wrong reasons as someone might comment back and say but rather because of what we thought was incredible innovation. Then, 2006 Friday black calls begin to happen and the all out war between J&J and Boston begin and boom, before you know it, That was no longer the company to work for. Being in the business sucked and many left or were fired. Biotronik was the last great place to work in the CRM business. Yes, it is more challenging than being "big blue" or one of the big three but there was an energy, a family. Now to my main point. We "were" different but now many of us ask ourselves "Why Biotronik". If we are being made in the image of the other big three and still face the same challenges while being paid less then "Why Biotronik"? If that is the plan, and it seems obvious based on the Sr management team being put together, then why would anyone want to again hate their job. Yes I can hear you haters already on both sides and can pretty much predict what the responses will be. Here is what I can say. If you are a clinical rep this is NOT the place to be. You are paid less at Bio than any other company and bare the overwhelming burden of the day to day business while being the first to potentially loose your job when the inevidible down turn of any territory drops. If you are a rep, you face the incredible challenge of breaking into new accounts out gunned and out numbered by an overwhelming margin. You will spend enormous amounts of time on forecasts, business reviews and and wasted time on LMS and tedious administrative tasks that have little to nothing to do with your success in growing the business. Most of your time will be spent making upper level management look good to justify their positions. This business has become like the fable the Kings New Clothes. No one bubbles up the truth, only what their next level of management wants to hear. Biotronik is loosing it's way and maybe for good reason. We will see the outcome of this new direction within the next 2-3 years. Meanwhile, I think we will all be asking ourselves, "Why Biotronik", because in many areas we are no longer different. We are very much the same as all of our competitors.

Wordy and lengthy but absolutely true. Biotronik used to let us do our work. Now, we spend more time on LMS, spreadsheets, conference calls, etc. etc. etc. instead of being out and proving our worth to our customers. I love spending hours discussing forecasts and being hounded to forecast my territory when at the end of the day it amounts to 10-20k one way or the other.

A comment on being 'different'.... We absolutely used to be different with our Remote Monitoring system. Now, it's archaic. We are getting killed by the ease of use and direct to EHR functionality of everyone else's systems in the ERs and on on the floors.

After all their Lawsuits for faulty products, deaths, employment cases and federal kickback cases, there won’t be anything left to hate on or worry about.

That rhetoric is so old.......... BTK has no more lawsuits than any of the other Big 3. Faulty products.... you might want to look into that a little bit more. Employment cases..... whatever. Federal kickback cases.... again, not even close to the Big 3.
