I see a lot of openings for BMS to promote Erbitux & Sprycel. Did a lot of their current employees take positions to promote the new product and that is why these vacancies are created. Any thoughts on backfilling those positions?

About to receive an offer from BMS selling these products. Why wouldn't I want to sell these drugs? What is the car selection? Average pay? Bonus? Stock? Thanks so much!

Seriously? Car selection? That is like asking what brand the free beer is. Who cares! It's free. Well actually at BMS they charge you about $150 a month for your car. And it is likely a hand me down Suburu or Impala. So don't get too excited their Francis. Average base salary will be about 3-5% above what you proved to them you are making (they apparently still violate the law here in asking for a paycheck stub from your current employer). Bonus has improved a little but even if you win the trip it won't be much over $40K. Target is $32k. No stock and even if you did get it, it does not move and those that got options 10 years ago watched them expire worthless. No pension for newbies. The annual increase in the cost of benefits eats up your merit raise every year (if you get one). If you do get one, it hasn't been above 2% for the past 5 years for top performers. I make less today than when I started 7 years ago because of increasing costs of benefits and car. If you are unemployed and need a job, go to this purgatory and do your time. Maybe you can move on to another company. If you are leaving a company for BMS, you need to ask yourself if you are making a good move. I can only think of one company that I would leave to go to BMS and that is Esai Oncology. That isn't saying much.

Thanks for the reply. Why is there so much hype about BMS oncology them? Supposed to be a great opportunity. Hmmm????

Its like primary care here stay away. 4 in a pod and reach and frequency call plans. Oh yeah, theres 3 more hospital reps added to that pod of 4. We are the laugh of the industry by others. No stocks and not even an employee discount on the stocks. And no bottle waters at meetings. Just from the well! Luckily im retiring soon with my big fat pension. Sorry newbies, no pension for you.

Good drugs and pipeline. Poor management and a mess at the field level. Seriously, why would anyone want to join a company that has 6 reps per territory with everyone reporting to different managers with different philosophies and agendas?

My guess is there are still a ton of openings nationwide because no one with any onc experience would want to work at BMS unless they they are out of work or running from a bad manager. BMS will be downsizing again within 1-2 years and anyone with a brain can see that writing on the wall.

Outsider here...
Why do physicians use Erbitux ??
Given the cost, meager "survival" period, and other more advanced monoclonal recombinant structures to the same target.
I really don't understand...serious comments hopefully?

Really. I wouldn't have thought that looking in from the outside. Which Oncology companies do have a good reputation? Thanks

Re: Why are there so many Onc openings selling Erbitux/Sprycel-Did most move to new p

BMS has name recognition in oncology and a solid pipeline but management is screwed up and had adopted a warped primary care model that makes it unattractive to experienced reps from other companies. Oncology access is getting worse and having multiple reps selling the same product is an antiquated model that most customers hate and closes doors. Companies that utilize this model in oncology like BMS and Novartis close doors for everyone and give the industry a worse reputation.

Companies like BMS, Novartis, and Genentech all have good products and name recognition but have become companies experienced onc reps avoid. They epitomize Big Pharma old school thinking that have ruined the industries reputation and are working on destroying oncology as well.

The industry is evolving and regardless of what specialty you call on, access is worsening and the future of the job cloudy. There will be major consolidation and layoffs in the industry in the coming years. You don't want to be in a pod covering small geographies if you want to survive. BMS is slow to adapt and recognize how misguided and flawed their sales model has become. When they do, BMS oncology will not be a good place to be ad at least half (if not more) of the current territory clusters will be laid off. Take it to the bank.

What is the training like for these drugs? How long is home study and how long is the training? Is it in Princeton? Are the tests when you get to training or taken at home? 90% or better considered passing? Thank you so much for the help!

Because BMS Oncology is a train wreck!
