The fact is that they at least of leadership experience to lean on. It will be tough for all in sales, but the drug rep brings absolutely nothing to the table. Rds just having to listen to all those whiney, complaining, self entitled drug reps makes them well worth their salary. Come on please, if you are a rep you have no ground to stand on. The drug rep is the most overpaid, and underworked position in the history of mankind.
I started as a rep in 1990. During the interview process, i went oa a ride-along with a rep and could not believe that they were going to pay me 28K, plus car, benefits, and maybe 10k in bonus, to do that job. I simply could not believe it! I did it for five years, and determined that it was essentially a part-time job, with way above average pay, and went on to do other things in the company. Things that actually made me marketable, and where I am not a clone of 100,000 other people.
Now this was before managed care became entrenched, the absolute explosion of reps in PODS ( there was no such thing as 3 or more people from one product selling to the same doctor), and I only brought lunches to large clinics, so that I could get all the docs in one place, at one time. I did it for me, not for them.
Yeah, the drug rep is an absolute joke nowadays; lampooned on SNL, and in movies, it is an absolute joke. The secret is out!
