Why are Contact Lens Care products under Pharma

Contact lens solutions are under Pharma? Why then have a department called Vision Care if the product that cares for contact lenses is in another department?

So why not call the department what it is then. The Contact Lens department (but the solution that cleans the contact lens is in the Pharma department)

It does not really matter anyhow because of the weird matrix structure of the organization you could be in one department and do work for another. Although if you really want to have a career in the Vision Care business at B+L you have to get a job in the Pharma department as the Valeant management routinely slams Contact lens folks by publicly insulting their performance as the number 4 seller of contact lenses in the world.

So if you want to work in Vision Care and not get routinely publicly insulted by upper management get a job in Pharma.

Since Valeant only knows Pharma and wants to be a large Pharma company having Pharma attached to your job title is likely the best move you can make.

Even if you actually work on Vision Care make sure that your title says Pharma this and Pharma that as the next layoff if your title says Vision Care or Surgical you will likely be placed on list 2 instead of priority pharma employee list 1.

Can't speak to the business side - but from an ops side it makes sense. Mfg processes are very similar. Esp between solutions and aseptic pharma products.

Thank you for posting this. I was almost getting ready to post something myself that would amount to " Why does it even matter?" Bottom line : There's contacts, there's bottles and vats and syringes of things, and there's devices. These 3 are the only genuine categories of B&L. How / why it would've ever been organized any differently would only have been to make up imaginary director and vice-president jobs for people's friends and brother in-laws. Be a little bit less concerned about your title, your group, or who you report to or if you're in Pharma, or this imaginary place called "Vision Care" that never should've existed anyway, and a little more concerned about whether or not what you do / are / contribute to something that creates profit - because that's all that matters now - nothing more.
