You Mother-f---ers really had to create the animosity that there is now with the sovaldi pricing, which has created a witch hunt and placed a bigger microscope on the specialty market than there already was. Was it worth it to recoup the purchase price for Pharmasett in less than 2 years? The end result will be a new pricing war and and contracting basis which will likely lead to downsizing and loss of jobs and I'm not referring to the hepatitis field but biologics and other specialty drugs across this industry. You have in essence, lit the fuse for a nationalized healthcare system where Obama care created the fuse. As a bit of history, 8 years ago, there were over 110,000 reps total with all of the drug companies and the greed of the Pfizer's, Merck's, Novartis, BMS's and others. Today, it's down to less that 45,000.
At the end of the day, each of you as reps will not make enough money in salary (knowing how low Gilead pays) and bonus to feel this was worth it. Your micromanagers will continue keep their thumb on the back of your neck wanting more, more, more when you'll be only able to give them less, less, less. I realize that you didn't set the price however you have to understand that you represent the company that did and through that association, you are the face of the company and hence, despised by more and more.
I'm a former HCV rep from the "good old days" now in MS and have been watching this unravel since late 2013....there is no putting the Genie back in the bottle with the resulting shit war that has evolved, even if Abbvie was desparate to do what they did.
Now it is reported through the specialty pharmacy sector, that you're dropping the price of sovaldi down to $500/day. Who the hell will ever trust you is the question and based on that, what will the longer term ramifications be? I hope everyone of you takes a shit bath with your stock price, hopefully it will wake up a few of you.
 






I think you really are pointing the finger at the wrong company. First question you need to answer is what was the market pre Solvaldi. The answer is Boceprivir and Talaprivir. The cost for those drugs was $22k per month. For 24 to 48 months. They set the price. Now you introduce a far superior product with efficacy at 90%. Price $28k per month. Better drug on all accounts. Then you develope a drug that gets rid of INF and Riba. A product that every provider has been waiting for. Efficacy now 94-99%. Minimal side effects and few drug interactions. A price of $33k per month. The price for these drugs is still cheaper that BOC and TLP. This toxic drugs although somewhat effective were done in by inovation and science. No comes along ABBV with VPak. Which bring no clinical advantage to the market. Does it have better efficacy no about the same. Side effects yes more. Drug interactions yes more. Dosing and Adhearence no more. Does is contain Riba yes, Norvir Yes, Can you use it in PI failures no. So my point is the only way to enter a market against Harvoni was price. ABBV thought their deal with ESI would galvanize their business and guarantee that PBMs and HMOs would choose them becuase Gilead does no like price wars. The hand was forced. Gilead reacted properly. Did you expect them to lay down. ABBV could not compete in market with parity. Harvoni would win every time.
Now as for the good old days. Mean and lean is the way the industry is headed. Pipelines are essential. R and D essential. Savy management essential.
And as for the cost of Pharmacet, Gileads othe divisions like HIV, HBV Cardio etc paid that bill 2 years after the purchase.
Companies Gilead or others that continue to inovate will be the successful ones. No more marginal meds in markets where there is a far superior product. That for sure is one thing the HC system can't handle. A lot of patients have benifited from these meds. More will do so.
 






Gilead WAY over reacted, should have learned from the Pegs and PIs and went for parity at controlled rebates, sell the product in the office clinically. gilead contracting clowns blew it, clearly they do not have experience in this space
