What is the deal with the Fixed-Duration positions?

Very vague call about this position.....

Neuroscience right? The whole portfolio?

Is it a good gig? Why 24 month? Possibility of being retained?

Any insight would be great. Thanks!

You get 18 months to prove yourself, then get a massive punch to your gut, lose your air, and end up depressed and jobless, with a $300/month Cymbalta addiction.

And no wad of worthless Global Shares as a kiss goodbye! The worthless Global Shares I have are worth considerably more than the discontinuation head bangs you will get when you stop paying $300 dollars a month for Cymbalta!

Fixed-duration jobs with Lilly are the biggest joke ever played on unemployed people.

Better to stay in the ranks of the nobility of the unemployed, IMHO

OUR TIME IS COMING .... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I was an FDE. And these people are right. You're better off, and will have more self respect, and pride in yourself if you just say 'no'. Unemployment is not a shameful thing, as long as you are putting a huge effort into finding a job. (A JOB that is... not an FDE position which lets the company have an employee at your expense).

Ask the recruiter why you SHOULD take such a position. And please, tell us what they say. It's a perfectly fair question.

I have a trusted friend from HS who works at Lilly in a sales position. My friend says that FDE is the way of the future for a variety of reasons. Namely the amount of time it takes to get products through testing and FDA approval and also because of Obama care.

They will keep on FDE people if the product pipeline is fruitful. But if it's not they don't have ot pay 1000s of people severence in a massive lay-off situation.

It is a risk, but it is a good job and offers good experience, so it's a risk I'm willing to take.
