If only this company had Richard Branson on the BOD...

"If the person who works at your company is not appreciated, they are not going to do things with a smile," Branson says. By not treating employees well, companies risk losing customers over bad service. To this end, Branson says he has made sure that Virgin prioritizes employees first, customers second, and shareholders third.
"Effectively, in the end shareholders do well, the customers do better, and your staff remains happy," he says."

Yeah…. that guy isn't our CEO. That guy couldn't even get hired here, let alone be the CEO. He's too good of a person for Merck.

I still think that whole thing was a joke. Some dumbasses were actually stupid enough to buy into it.

When people work only to continually be unrecognized for their efforts and achievements they move on to where their value is recognized...

When leadership is grateful and actually demonstrates their gratefulness it increases employee passion and results. Unfortunately, this is not the way here. Jumping hurdles, pulling the weight, going that extra mile are worthless efforts. It all goes unrecognized and unappreciated ....unless you're in, and well connected.

This is not the way to success.

Once the downturn starts ethics and values are tossed aside. Demonstrates the true character of anyone be they a large corporation or a person. Merck seems to have tossed them aside much faster than most.

Merck didn't just toss their ethics aside….they took a flamethrower to them! Management cares not even a tiny little bit about the people that work here. The goal is to minimize headcount, nothing more.
