What do sales reps think about Elite Awards?

Hello, I am not a sales rep. But lately I am thinking that these Elite Awards are no longer a fair thing. Sales reps are awarded a bonus each year if they reach their goals. Then they pick a winner from each region and award them with an expensive trip too? And how is it fair that a sales rep with more than a million $ revenue is awarded the same as a sales rep with 100k revenue. On the other hand, we have back office, production employees, often doing more and more due to staff reduction, with no award (maybe a recognition or two for the whole region), and then we are invited to townhalls to "celebrate" winners. I have a feeling this is tone deaf, and should at least be limited to Townhall for sales reps only. Do the sales reps even like to go on those trips?

If you think it's unfair then I suggest you apply to be a sales rep. It's not for the faint at heart. It's not easy having a quota hanging over your head every day or your job and compensation rely on customer's spending and budgets. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sure the job is tough. All the OP is saying is there are a lot of people who help that rep out who don’t get any kind of bonus. They only get to see pictures of the exotic vacations while stuck in their cubes eating funyons creating PowerPoints for the big winner.

Yes, I am aware that the quotas are higher and higher each year, but so is our workload, especially in the past year. I was wondering if those incentive trips really are motivating the sales team? And I am also wishing they do not push it to us office people - I am talking admin, customer services, etc... we do not get any bonus at all. And we have more and more on our plates.
