Walmart called, your pictures are ready

Go to WalMart any time after midnite, and have a buzz on before you go.

Hilarious.

They're contributing to the poor staying poor so one has to draw a line somewhere. I draw it at the entrance to their parking lot no matter how good their prices on Chinese goods are. Some food for thought...

Fuckie had an interesting idea though..........

It amazes me how many brainwashed(brain DEAD??) US citizens want to convert this country to a Socialist/communist state.

I certainly don't want that but - the fact is, Walmart is doing essentially the same thing pharma companies are doing - keeping people under 40 hours a week (like contact sales) so they don't have to offer benefits. And when they stay under the poverty line, they end up voting in socialism.

So you would rather pay (this is an example ONLY) $2.85 for a dozen eggs at a grocery store instead of $1.85 for a dozen eggs at Walmart?

Sorry folks, but I save money where ever I can, and if that means Walmart, then so be it.

I'm not going to spend an extra $10 to $15/week just to stay out of Walmart. And if I drive all over town to save $$ on several different things, then I haven't saved at all -- I've put gas in my car and helped to pollute the air.

I suppose it's an individual thing DD, we don't eat eggs so I've never been faced with that one. Certainly survival is our primary motivator. E.g., my girlfriend uses coupons (which I never did) and we have some smaller markets (Fresh & Easy and Trader Joes) that we enjoy shopping in. We also recycle every two weeks at a chain that gives us a cash ticket to use in their store. Previously, I'd never done anything remotely like that in my life. Now, I have time and enjoy it - go figure. We like walking around in a smaller place and we feel we get different, good and interesting items at competitive prices. We get 90% of our fruit and vegetables at Certified Farmer's Markets in the area. For example only - we get Heirloom tomatoes for less than tasteless reds at the market. We get UNbelievable greens (fresh dandelion, Arugula, kale and on and on) there too.

And beyond pricing (in our county) another negative aspect of WalMart has been the strangulation of individual business which is/was the lifeblood of our nation. I hate seeing this happen and for $10 / $15 a week I'll stick with smaller stores with competitive pricing and chain stores who offer their workers benefits. It almost seems like we're cutting our own throats by encouraging a business culture that goes against our values of having full time jobs, health benefits, etc. which in turn (rightfully or wrongfully) encourages or forces those workers to enter the foodstamp system. But that's just me. We all gotta do what we gotta do.

Vag, very interesting post. There isn't any place around here that will give a coupon for recycling -- that must be nice. I use the fresh market areas around here too, when certain fruits/vegetables are in season and I can support the local farmers.

And you mentioned a key thing -- time to do the things you do. I'm in an office 8-5/M-F now, so I don't have the luxury of going where I want to for things.

You nailed it DD on the time thing. When I was working, time was money. What it gets down to is this - you figure your needs, you figure your cash intake and you make your budget. My habits and priorities have changed since I retired. I try to do the same thing only also avoiding WM.

I wanted to put out a few thoughts on the Walmartization of our country because I'm afraid the long term result will be like what happened in pharma. It would be nice to see a return to when corporations provided full time employment, carrers and benefits. I want that for my kids. I guess its hard for old farts to change?
