Can anyone tell me about VITAS in CLEVELAND OH area? I am interviewing for sales position and just wondering why all of the openings? Is it turnover or expansion? Also, if anyone has advice about the hospice industry as a whole that would be helpful. Any traing provided at VITAS? Any insight on the management?

MAJOR TURNOVER! Hospice & Home Healthcare industry turnover is unbelievable!

Stay away from this industry; especially this company. They are horrible to work for. There is a huge disconnect between the Clinical and Sales teams. Vitas has no clue how to run a sales organization. You will find yourself 'trolling" for patients at nursing homes and hospitals. You have very little if any opportunity to sell anything. Its all about referrals and admissions. You will be asked to work weekends and you do not receive any paid holidays. You will drive your own car and pay for your own lunches. I ended up losing more money than I made at Vitas and was miserable...If you are a professional sales person with a strong background; this will be a gigantic step backwards. I learned the hard way and am glad to have moved on. This company has a very high rate of turnover all over the country. Do not allow them to dupe you into thinking how great they are and how committed they are to patient care. Physicians will not want to speak with you about hospice and so you are left dealing with case managers every single day....They will dog you about getting more patients to the point where your accounts will cringe every time they see you....RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!! This company is a DOG!!!!!!

Thanks so much for this post. I am interviewing with Vitas and after reading everything on here i'm staying put with my current pharma job. Pharma is scary right now but at least i like what i do and i don't want to take a huge step backwards. thank you again for posting.

I see that vitas has sales representative positions and community liaison positions. Can someone explain the difference? Is the sales rep. position the better ($$$$) position to be in?do the sales reps focus on docs while liaisons deal more with "common folk"? What type of salaries are we talking about?

Vitas is the leader in end of life care and a fantastic place to work, if you have a passion for hospice. You must have a personal connection to an end of life situation to be able to appreciate all that hospice care can provide for patients and families. Marketing jobs at Vitas are all about spreading the knowledge of what hospice is and isn't, while differentiating Vitas from other hospice companies.

Base salaries are lower than the inflated Pharma industry but Vitas is a stable company. If you plan to work for Vitas, you cannot get away with the lazy work ethic which is so abundant in the Pharma industry.

The problem with ALL for profit hospice companies is GREED. It is really disgusting to hear them speak of "caring". Pushing people to be on hospice when not wanted. Can you say milking the medicare system??????????????

I heard VITAS has employees hired to troll the internet. I think the above response is one of them.

Can someone answer this and give me an idea of a starting salary? Thanks in advance!

Starting Salary for me was 55-60k I would not go to Vitas unless you were unemployed and desperate. If you work for any location that reports to J.P. I suggest you run. If Gaddy would get rid of him some progress could be made. But he screams old school Telling Vs. Consultative Selling. The entire sales model they teach is to have you discuss Hospital readmission's and saving the Hospital Money vs. how they can provide superior care.

But, it's not about superior patient care, hospitals are not about superior patient care - they are about money. Yes, healthcare is broken. If you talk only about money you ARE selling correctly to hospitals. Remember hospitals are not run by medical people, they are totally corporate now. Nobody is thinking about patients and quality healthcare, that's just a ruse.
