Vanda is no longer a PhRMA member!

Vanda ignored Mental Health Awareness month again, is a no show at state and national psychiatric conferences including APA. Now Vanda (meaning the Emperor Dr P himself) is too cheap - or too unethical to be a member of PhRMA. Or did PhRMA toss Vanda out?

Vanda compliance training includes a section on adhering the PhRMA guidelines. Since no longer members of PhRMA, we can toss out any adherence to the PhRMA Code on Interaction with Healthcare Professionals. Take that HCP out to dinner, to the basketball game, take lunch in weekly. After all, it's not against the law, it was only against a code of which Vanda is not a member.

i do not know the full story here, but in May 2017 PhRMA eliminated their associate membership category and began requiring member companies to meet the following criteria:

a three-year average global R&D to global sales ratio of 10% or great; and
a three-year average global R&D spend of at least $200 million per year

Vanda did not meet the second. This is probably why they were taken off the member list. While I love anti-Vanda conspiracies, this may be innocuous.

Maybe if Vanda invested in some dollars for research and trials for additional needed Fanapt indications they would be eligible. It's sad to be a pharma company that does not meet the criteria for membership into it's trade association.
Regardless the OP still made good points about lack of Vanda support for state and local psych associations.
Do we need to worry about PhARMA rules if we aren't members. Loosen the ropes.
