Union

At one point or another, every Labcorp site has heard rumors of forming a union. I think it would be a great idea for all hourly employees. Labcorp corporate will never let this happen though. Union intervention would severly cripple King's "facility rationalization" goal. Further, you will notice Labcorp conducts its RIF's just off the radar screen to avoid having to issue WARN notices. Unionization would rob Labcorp of this deception.

You can bet, if unionization looks to become a real threat in the future, union-busting will become one of Dave's "pillars of success". Just remember the tactics Labcorp used in the Florida legal mess. Don't think for a second, Labcorp doesn't have a bag full of tricks to breakup any union discussions.

If supervisors or management are trying to talk people out of forming a union, this could possibly let the union in by default. I believe they are not to be speaking to people about not joining. In principle a union would be a good idea, however, LabCorp is not beyond just closing a lab down entirely, and shifting the work to other facilities just to avoid this. There is a reason that HQ is in North Carolina, a state not at all friendly to unions.

Companies can fight this through a variety of approachs. But in the end it is a game of numbers. Takes 30% of folks in the potential bargaining unit to sign cards in order to force an election. Then 50% or more have to vote in favor in an election. Many foks sign cards through peer pressure and also if they are at bottom of food chain, because there is not much to lose.

Any specifics as to what stage this is at or where?

That rumor has been going around for several years
A few small PSC's in one area.
Outside union reps pass out flyers
People talk about it.

No real mass organization.

Anyway, Labcorp would RIF anyone who even thinks about organizing.
Take their chances with legal.
Whack a hundred just to target a few.

So are you red or blue?

JJ does not consider her employees people. To her they are just red or blue: pro union or not.

They are "beneath" her status no better than trash in the gutter!

CE needs to get rid of her lying self before she causes more damage

Re: In General

Seriously, how is this crap lab doing these days? Worked there some years ago and I still hear it's awful. Don't know if it's the past very bad reputation or simply still sucks. Based on offices that I call on.....it's the latter. No Dr. wants to use LabCrap unless the patient's insurance card says they "have" to. A shame this place cant get it's act together in the Northeast market....don't even consider LCA as the competition......works for me!!!
