OK great now we know that the axe is falling but how do I go in an office and pretend that I'm not waiting day by day to hear I am no longer a "valued resource" for Novartis???

This company tried to re introduce prexige & blow up peoples liver for a few bucks &
you are actually naive enough to believe novartis ever looked at reps as a "valued resource"?
Good lord get a grip man !

The motivation is the bonus structure they have put in place from Jan. through April. If you look at your goals (which appear to be very attainable for once) and the dollars attached - it could be substantial. The kicker is that everyone has to make their goals. So unless someone does not work at all, you should be able to make some$$$$. Since 60% of us will not be here, that could be some useful cash. Obviously, they did this to motivate people to work. Unless you have a few physician friends/office staff most doctors do not want to hear our tale of woe....they dont really care

If they are really interested in motivating... they would pay this out monthy. Face the truth people are interviewing for new jobs. So if one leaves because they get a new gig- there goes your chance of making the kicker.

i understand your point, except if you land a new job that quickly before you even know if you have been layed off then you do give up the bonus and the severance.....but then you are already in a more secure place financially . It is a decision each person has to make. My point, and I am not a manager, that it is better to work and secure the bonus than to sit home - unless you have an interview or a lead on a job. Just my opinion

Another point: If you sit home waiting on your severance and instead the company keeps you on, won't it be interesting come September when your manager looks at your numbers for the first trimester (January - April) and you didn't even hit goal. It will be obvious you didn't work to make your goals - that will possibly equal a big fat 1 on your next review which will start a domino effect to being TERMINATED! There are a lot of interesting turns that this incentive plan presents. If the reps work their butts off and goals are made and surpassed - NVS share holders are happy and reps have possibly an extra $20k plus in their pockets. If some reps choose to work their butts off and others sit by and watch, the ethics and compliance hotline could light up with tattlers, which could lead to termination and no severance for those who chose not to work. The goals are achievable (as someone else said, "for once"). I don't know about everyone else but I'd love to be handed a check for $20k and either get a severance package or be told I'm still employed. Either way, I choose to look at it as a win-win situation. Best of luck to everyone - whatever you decide to do!

They are not going to be firing anyone for not working. imagine lawsuits that would come out of this. Reps turning other reps in is not valid reasoning by any means especially in this situation we are all in

If unethical behavior can be verified you bet your ass it will lead to termination - This is dog eat, dog time. Where there is smoke, there is fire. All they have to do is be given a reason to look deeper: 1. sampling, 2. lunches (event alliance infractions) 3. past programs (event alliance infractions and 4. calls. Novartis is under OIG guidelines - anything that isn't compliant is fair game and that's one less severance package the company has to pay! I don't agree with it, but that's the reality of where we are.

Employees have known this was coming, I know of a few peers who are on #2 or 3 of interviews with other companies. My point is one is a direct counterpart and is the main lead for Exforge. If he goes then our chance of hitting the multipliers are gone. We've lost voice for that product.

Its going to be hard to secure the big bonus when people on your team are looking for a new job, as you mentioned its better in the long run to secure a new job then just hope for a bonus. Plus Novartis will do their magic math on your numbers at the end of the day.
