TR takes over Protein Sciences?

It seems odd to push a group which has done so much for Amgen under a group which has yet to prove itself. First it was the TB dismissal, now a slap down for the current leadership (forget promotion). Why do we punish them?

Brilliant, fire Tom B. and then cripple his dept by putting it under the "leadership" of the most underachieving group in all of Amgen. Let's look at CR&D's record...oh wait they they nothing to show for after all this time. Maybe it has something to do with the hiring criteria into CR&D: the absence of
1a) humility, 1b) common sense, 1c) teamwork.

The critical question is: who had it out for Tom? Was it D. L. or J. M.? Was it even M. K.? How does M. K. feel about being passed over for the job she was hired for?

Being in this "cost center," some good folks went down as collateral damage because of this shit. That pisses me off.

This is the first step in pushing TR out of CR&D. RP knows the level of incompetence runs deep. It will take the hiring of true leadership to get CR&D anywhere near a competitive level and years to clear out the TR cronies.

Here's your clue:

Disgraceful Leader

Don't kid yourself, RP is behind all of this. Putting TR in charge of PS makes complete sense once this basic fact is acknowledged. RP doesn't want a strong leader for PS! Think about it; who's most responsible for the whole "Merck West", "modality independent" train wreck? RP cannot admit his huge mistake in pushing Amgen R&D away from its core competencies. He must continue to pour good money after bad, increase the resourcing of CR&D and further marginalize PS. Somebody needs to ask RP how it's possible that he's had to announce yet another hiring/capital freeze only a short few months after the prior 3-year freeze finally thawed.

These hiring freezes are remarkably destructive over time. The best people leave because they have options. The mediocre just put their heads down and try not to make waves. And the worst people know the gravy train has pulled into the station because firing them without possibility of backfill is not going to happen.

This is weak management at its worst, a non-decision with big implications for the company. I didn't think morale could go lower. Think again.

We were say the exact thing ten years ago. Nothing has fundementally changed just new faces.

Rather than posting here you best get your resumes out. Amgen is going to make a huge push to move posts to India and/or China and follow the Novartis model. New CFO is pushing for major change.
