Studies show management can have an impact on performance more than we know.

Despite obstinate goof offs, wily cheats and laziness found in the DNA...managers can jump start that engine and get the motor humming for a smooth ride...

What might they need to know to get the troops better motivated....

stop changing, stop firing, stop forced ranking, move faster, free coffee, regularly reward achievement.

management that doesn't sugar coat everything or regurgitate bullsh!t kool-aid mantra (CIC anyone? collaborate to innovate to compete!). GET REAL, stop with the phony behavior and speeches.

Here's a tip. Management doesn't get paid to make the rank and file happy here. They get paid to make Leadership happy. Go read the 'change the people or change the people' thread and you'll thoroughly understand that the only ways to personally succeed here are to drink the Kool Aide or leave. Resistance is futile.

Because of management's behavior towards free thinkers may be futile but so is productivity too.

Nothing at Merck could be more valid than this. If more motivation is needed in the field, bring back recovery meetings. Recovery meetings always correlated well with improved performance is what I was told so it was difficult to argue against them.
