To Do List For Those Leaving
1. Print all reviews
2. PDF version of the "My Rewards" ... this puts your earnings and benefits all into one place.
3. Get in contact with current and former peers, DM's & RD's as well as customers to request letters of recommendation
4. Print all data for current reports - you won't get anymore so ensure you can back up the numbers as you know them today
5. Access HR site to obtain company discount codes (cars, computers and etc)
6. Get a Passport Hard drive and transfer all documents from "My Files" and email folders
7. Get your gas tank filled up
8. Put an "out of office" message for email and vm directing folks to your private contact information
9. Get cracking on LinkedIn
10. Take advantage of LHH services right away - use them to review your resume (external is very different than what you may have used for interal promotions)
11. Get rid of your samples and materials - get it off your hands and reap the benefit of purging!
12. Get onto "My Retirement" and acertain retirement, pension, healthcare and cash balance monies are available
13. Make an appointment with your financial advisor to determine how to best move money and plan
14. Contact your state to determine what level of benefit you may be able to claim for unemployment insurance ... SA will not contest this, so you may be able to claim monthly in addition to your severence
15. Find any stock options you were awarded and insure you understand strike dates and that your planner helps you track the right time to cash these out (if the stock ever recovers)
16. Make appointments for physicals, dental exams and all pending medical tests for you and your family - determine if your spouses' insurance covers you after severance is over
17. Fill up on Rx's - change any SA product over to generic or preferred if necessary
18. Determine your car situation - contact Fleet asap to ask if you have the option to purchase your vehicle
19. Get car insurance
20. Cancel storage unit
21. Change EZ Pass and other items that are assigned to your Amex
22. Change over any account emails that you may have assigned to your work email
This should give you a healthy start but I'm sure there are some things I've missed. You should plan on the next few days/weeks being sleepless and busy. Be considerate of your peers who are staying at SA and forgive those who seem distant or who don't wish you well, they feel as bad as you do, just in a different way and many don't know how to talk to you - some are jealous that you got the golden ticket out.
Lastly to all, be kind to those who are laid off, please ask us "how are you?" not "how's the search going". Don't assume that because you had a longer tenure or a higher rank or because you have a family, or you're single or because you're the bread winner that your situation is different or worse than anyone else's. This is a terrible time for all. Don't lessen someone's feelings by trying to make your situation seem worse, it's insulting and inconsiderate.
Good luck to all.
