Those that have been promoted

How long were you with the company prior to being promoted? Did your DM ask you if you were interested in the promotion or did you simply post?

Looking for truthful responses please. Save the wise cracks.

You can post but unless you work w/ your DM for their support it is a long shot. A lot of reps don't understand that without their DM's blessing it is almost impossible. While your DM can't tell you not to post they can certainly discourage. When you post without asking your DM you just took 3 steps backwards. Your best bet is to take feedback from your DM, improve that skill set and work w/ them for a promotion.

You have to tell your DM if you are interested in a promotion of any kind and what path you are interested in-sales, sales management, training, managed care, marketing, hospital, etc. It varies by region and area. Some divisions have little to no turnover in higher spots and they are filled with tenured employees. Others are the opposite, people are stepping down, leaving, or getting fired all the time. Some like to promote older and/or more experienced or tenured reps. Others like 'em young and dumb. Sometimes a higher level spot opens and nobody even wants it.

This is right on. So much in this company changes based on area, region and even division. One thing is pretty certain though-you need the support of your DM however you get it, them coming to you or you going to them.

Most people promoted at Forest have less than 3 years experience in the field which is why we have such brilliant leadership - after all, any 28 year old with a couple years experience knows all there is to know about this industry, growing prescriptions, leading a team of people, etc. etc. and is truly poised for success.

That's the whole point apparently, the RDs in those regions don't want them to have any ideas, creativity, or skills other than saying "yes sir!" and "great idea, you're a genius!" and the ability to to be okay with having zero respect from their reps since their relationship with them is completely contrived and based on nothing sincere so we are just saying the same things to you that you say to your RD, if we want to keep our jobs that is.

Hence the reason Forest has 30% turnover every year. I wonder if senior management might ever realize that a cultural paradigm shift would save several million dollars in hiring and training and increase the vaue of our stock ...... of course then what would our DM's and RD's do with themselves if they didn't spend 1/2 their time interviewing and replacing sales people.

Brilliant business model!
