5% of you day is selling
95% is justifying your job

selling what? there is no selling, you don't need a contract at the end, that is not selling. Try med sales, that is true selling. so it should be 0% selling. 100% the rest.
Really! I had to sign a contract for my cell phone service! and my rental car! tough job.
You must been stuck at Forest for a long time.
Contract= A signed contract, and without it you do need make a dime on commission and not meet your quota.
I was once in Pharm sales and now in Med Device, total ball game. I get a small base, but really good commission/bonus. We do not make any extra money and meet our quota if at the end of the day we do not have a signed contract in hand. Unlike Pharma, regardless you still get a fat base and all you need to do is drop off samples/drop off lunch/speak program/and you still get paid...
Fat base and commission? Sure you were with Forest?
.Device you get a signed contract which lifts your bonus to the level of the sale. It is not hoping that your PCP's write an Rx and fill it at your best pharmacy. Medical device is real sales...sign on the dotted line or no pay for you. Low base...HUGE commisions. W2 $215,000 last year and had fun doing it. Expense reviews...cmon. time stamps...thats amateur pharma.
Get a job where if you feel you actually CAN sell ( most phama cant) and blow you numbers out of the water. No closed offices...they want you there all the time to help in Med device. You are aprreciated and add value. Its work , but it makes pharma look like a cater who who needs bystolic to lower their BP each day from useless DM who want to upgrade to device but realize they dont have the skills either. You are useless amd a puppet if you cant leave. Forget the family, for get the kids, do the best for YOU. Pharma is a joke and we all know it.

You are so right. A lot of pharma reps think they a "sales rep" but in reality they are customer associates/promoter/marketer/food delivers. Think about when was the last time Pharm reps had to have a signed contract/doc to get paid. Look at a lot of the device sales position, it will say "pharma sales experience no need to apply" because Device manager knows that pharm reps don't sell, they are used to the high base and will not survive the low base and work your butt off on commission. Pharma sales is not "selling", it is promoting/marketing. What do you think now customer are cutting a lot of the reps and hiring high school graduates to the job for $35K. If you don't believe, than take at look at this openings for CSA:

Think about it, if companies could pay someone to do the same job for $35k (no car), why would they pay you 60K for the same gig?[/
I am in hospital sales launching Teflaro. I've done B2B, pharma, medical device, and retail. Can't speak for the other divisions but trust me, this hospital team is selling. In fact, I would venture to say that most device reps wouldn't be able to hack it in this division. The turnover here is worse than xerox/adp. Here you have a year to perform them you're out.

You lucky you get a year, xerox, and other true b2b only gives you six months.

That's sort of true but the turn over rate at B2B is 10-20% per year. Usually the bottom 10% get the ax. The first year turnover in hospital is about 30%. The pressure is every bit as intense as B2B/ device. Everyone is starting off at 0 and orders are tracked weekly. You also don't have samples, warm leads, order forms, or laser pointers to get you in front of your customers.
