Thinking about applying

Hi guys,

I am currently senior at a top 25 university majoring in biology and marketing. I am interested in applying for a pharmaceutical sales representative position at Forest. I was wondering what I should put in the 'Salary Desired' field. I have no prior sales experience, as all of my experience is towards biological research. I have read that the base salary is 50k, which in my opinion is pretty solid for a recent grad. Should I put something lower than that? Higher? Thanks!

take your degree and start with a LEGITIMATE career, one you can build on and take the experience with you

pharma ONLY offers you a LIMITED window of opportunity, make a good bit of money, burn you out or get laid off, and have NO TRANSFERRABLE job skills, then you are a middle aged wash up and have NO CAREER options except to start over

you do not SELL in pharma, you market

PHARMA is a laughing stock of the corporate world

As a new graduate or soon to be- don't choose to work in the field of pharma. You are nothing but a glorified lunch runner. You won't get time with Docs, and you will run up against gate-keepers that will tell you "we only do lunches and we are six months out". Pharma has ruined the environment of selling to physicians- they are so jaded now- the only thing that they will ask you is "what's for lunch"? It is a shame considering there are some true sales professionals who do have something to say that may "heaven forbid" actually help the doctors patient- but you will never get the chance to tell your story. You are better off looking to sell in other industries. Capital Equipment, devices, computer software- anything else but pharma. Once you have it on your resume- you'll wish you never did-most other companies look at it for what it is....a waiter or waitress in a suit. Good Luck!
