The final death of a once great culture is sad

Amgen Operations was once the jewel of the Biotech/Pharma industry. Great productivity, wonderful inspiring culture and a happy, fulfilled workforce.
It’s all gone to shit.
When self assumed elites take over and create a cabal, people vote with their feet. ESant has essentially overseen the destruction of Amgen’s Operations culture. Anyone recall the Amgen Values? Where the heck did they go?
Short man syndrome and an invasion of MIT robots that enjoy the taste of ES has taken Operations beyond the tipping point.
I’ve never seen so many people leave ATO in such a short space of time. It’s like the pandemic made folks realize that life is too short to suck it up every day and just keep taking the ridiculously woke BS while the cabal do as they please.

I would not advise anyone to join Amgen Operations unless they have a resume with Ivy League and a stint at McKinsey. Real diversity of thinking is gone and you’ll last a year or so before it’s gets all too much and you start looking elsewhere. It’s a bad place to be at the moment. Smoke and mirrors is the MO to get ahead.

Couldn’t agree more with this one. This is what happens when you choose diversity over talent. The man is pissed about being born short and PR and is on woke rampage to promote all the once downtrodden like him into positions of power whether they have the skills or not. Be Science based? No, can’t even explain how our drugs work and doesn’t care to learn. Only one person on OLT left who is driven by what science can do for patients, but he’s a white man so we’ll see how much longer he lasts.

are there people from field joining operations?

You are joking right? This is the worst Ops department I've seen in 28 years in the industry. Have you only worked at mass market big pharmas?

Not joking at all. Ops people used to bleed blue. Nothing was too much trouble, morale was high. We loved our jobs.
I don’t know anyone who respects the OLT……it is amazing, there is literally nothing ES says that is taken as authentic….his crew are just woke, weak characters. Trust is GONE.
Morale is dead and people are clinging to the hope of a RIF. It’s all down to terrible leadership. ES must (but won’t) own it.
ATO is simply a bad place to work at the moment.

I been in Amgen for 20+ years supporting the Operational side of the business in different departments and I have to Agree 100% with the original post. Just like Trump, the guy is a Con-Man. He has not delivered in any area such as Operational Excellence, READ and many other initiative. He is just recycling ideas from other organizations that are more mature than Amgen but he suck at implementing them. His only achievements has been his loyalty to his pals, where all of them have great positions (ED and above) with zero return since none of them had any backrgound in Pharma or Biotech. Many of the people he brought to AML are now gone, after a lot of damage to the site and their toxic culture. The fact that Bob Bradway knows so little about operation does not help since he has no understanding to properly challenge Esteban. AML and the whole Operational side of the business has more VPs and EDs than ever before. Esteban double the level 7 and abovr headcount in AML whipe our volume keep decreasing ( not sure how gets away with it, once again Bob Bradway does not understand the business). His best achievement is the export of critical knowledge from the many employees that are leaving weekly across Operation, Job Well Done

You make some very valid points. Since I live in my own little sales bubble, what positions constitute “Amgen Operations”? The interesting part about your post is we are seeing the same mass exodus over on the sales side. Therefore, if this toxic culture is not just a sales issue, that is definitely concerning.

With which of the “very valid” points do you agree, and what examples can you provide to corroborate? This is above your pay grade, sales monkey.

Amgen’s culture has been bad for at least 20 years and is now toxic. Wall Street has finally discovered as evidenced by the 52 week low in the stock. Sinking ship that will be owned by probably Merck in a few years.

Amgen Operation cover Manufacturing (Drug Substance and Drug Product), Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, Procesa Development

he’s talking about ops, not sales ops... ops is like actual pharmaceutical development and manufacturing... sales ops has been toxic for a LOT LONGER than non sales ops

The best part of your post is how ignorant you are about what I make. I have no doubt in my mind that my salary far exceeds yours. Who is laughing now…
