The breakdown

The most important teleconference will take place Jan 4. Here, you will be informed that voluntary severance will be an option this time. The volunteers will only occupy 60 percent of the overall head count reduction. The other 40 percent will come from low performers, folks who live outside the territory and the lowest on the seniority list. Just about ALL of the posts on this forum are false so disregard the non sense. (you may even believe this is non sense) These numbers are 100 percent REAL. I'm sick of seeing and hearing of people losing their jobs and I've decided to share this information. To cover my rear, I'll just say that this info is part of the swirling rumors that are floating around. Don't say I didn't tell you. Good luck.

Will the package be the same for voluntary severance?

I heard this is what happened in Puerto Rico

The voluntary package will be greater than the involuntary. Medical insurance will last a calendar year. I'm just sick of innocent people being affected on a year to yer basis. I wish I could say how I've attained this information but to do this would totally place some folks in harm. You'll hear conspiracy theories etc on this board that are certainly not true. The decisions on who goes and who stay will be chosen from the pool of folks that decide not to take the package. Keep in mind, there's guardrails in place to ensure too many people don't voluntarily resign. 60 percent is the number. As many people that are rude and senseless in the comments that they make, I know that there are still good people within Novartis and ones that actually want to stay. Again, good luck.

I tell can tell you this is crap as they don't give a damn about seniority.

AND "low performers",Puleeeeeeze!!!! please excuse me for saying this, but what a joke that is. Performance based on an industry wide faulty data system. Performance has never been accurately and effectively measured in Pharma sales. So don't refer to the people who are caught in the layoff as low performers. It will be a pleasure to be out of Pharma just to stop being measured by such a faulty, inauthentic, contrived system that is truly not even close to recognizing or even developing great salespeople. This is a big reason for voluntary severance just to move on and get away from this amateur hour.

I always love it when quote "high performers" have no idea how they even got there. It's the big "unknown" factor. The great salespeople are the ones that know the clinical data and are effective in delivering the information in a conversational natural format which does not include the nonsense imposed in role plays. Their are other traits yet I assure you the pharma evaluations of salespeople does not measure it.

It is really immaterial when you consider that the environment that exists now does not require quality sales people which is why what will be left after the lay off will not be "top performers".

kudos to the previous poster about "Top Performers"...if you don't have a good drug with great managed care coverage then you have the deck stacked against you...I was in it a long time and the stories the top performers told about their success didn't seem much different than those on the bottom...thankfully i am out of industry and despite my fear of a new industry i love it as i am paid for my work, or lack of it...don't have to worry about teammates pods whatever other bs a pharma company can dream up....
I do not relish in the fact that layoffs are coming for you...trust me it is very scary out there but if you work hard you will be OK...I was a top performer, I was a low performer and I was laid off...been there done that...the pharma tide has turned, concentrate on your next career move...

When will the actual layoff take place? How much time do we realistically have with this company until the 'day'? So many good people out there, best of luck to everyone

So true been rated a 3 ("top performer") 4 times out of 6 total years only once got a 1.2 in 2010. 2009 had a 3.3. I guess I'm a low performer or is the fact that you can't sell something that has no market have anything remotely to do with it especially when the goals are never adjusted to account for market/territory changes (2 people in a pod competing against other pods with 5, yadda yadda yadda MHC changes mid year or a bunch of Walgreen establishments that open that do not report, or Walmart that discounts generics in an already crowded CV med market) not to mention that 65-70% of the total meds prescribed now are generic and Novartis brings that point home with blaring commercials on the radio touting the benefits of generics but hey we're all just "low performers". Not doing the pull through on Marketing initiatives based on fictional feedback or lack thereof from the field.

ARE THESE JUST Lousy field people making EXCUSES? or dare we say MARKET REALITIES???? I mean the list of variable issues listed above is by no means complete.

So getting back to fictional feedback: You know, when a sales person tells their DBM I get more traction from lunches and the DBM tells the Regional Manager "programs don't work and are not an effective use of budget dollars" and the RM says " Well we have to do them and you have to spend it and tells Marketing what a great program initiative they have -- that's the foul smell of fictional feedback or let's give it a cute corporate tag line "Fake transparency." Forget about Market Reality we need to lazer focus on Fake Transparency.

Forgot to mention your speech is censored can only talk the PI also cannot compare your product to the competition. Not even PI to PI but hey....you are evaluated as a low performer.

I agree that the "low performer" category is ridiculous (most of the time) but the reality is, that's exactly what they use. It's a crap shoot. Good luck. By th way, the Rose Bowl is greeaaat!!!

AZ rep here. We are going through our layoffs the end of this month. We were able to "self-identify" early, meaning you volunteer to go and accept the severance package, which is 2 weeks for every year, minimum 12 weeks. They furnish medical insurance for 6 months. What type of package are you guys getting? If you volunteer to go, is the package better than if they lay you off? Our package is 2 weeks per year if you volunteer, or if you are laid off. No difference.

Good luck to you guys.

Last years layoff was 20 week minimum with 2 weeks year after 10 yr.
1 yr medical insurance .

Don't know if that's what it will be this year
Don't know why you would volunteer if the package was the same unless you really wanted out and didn't think you would get cut.

Damn good severance, I hope AZ is that generous with us
